Publisher's summary

Damien thought his exams would be bad enough. Then his mother collapsed with a failing heart.

In a desperate move Damien throws himself into the Streamer Contest of Saga Online, the latest fantasy VR-MMORPG. Winning will provide the funds for his mom’s surgery. Yet early betrayal and a close run in with a vampire almost ruin his attempt before he even begins.

Stuck at the bottom of a dungeon with no gear, no allies and little hope, Damien must embrace the undiscovered Occultist class, master control of his new demon companions and take the contest by storm. His plan is simple enough. Topple the most famous player in Saga Online.

Summon your imps. Prepare for battle!

Just a tad whiny

Seems like it will be a very interesting series. The MC was a bit whiny and forgetful. This did get on my nerves a bit so only four stars. I would like it if an author would give a MC a powerful artifact that it wouldn't save the day for once. It's all very predictable. spice it up a bit. Narrator did well.

Good stand alone

This audible was well performed and is certainly a stand alone book. I would struggle to listen to a second in a series as he is a bit too naive and things come just a bit too easy for him.

An excellent book

Really quite excellent! I’ve also been burned by some very adolescent litrpg books, but I thoroughly enjoyed this one.

Great story, excellent character motivation, nice characters, also kept a very steady pace in my opinion with a nice balance in how it juggled fun parts like character building vs plot advancement vs leveling etc. basically I liked the flow.

I hope there are more on the way 😋

Great book

This book has reminded me of Will Wheaten narrating Ready Player One. I love the idea of the pure build, I havent seen that in a LitRPG. Iv also been on a dungen core books, so the small bit of base building is a fun addition. There were parts of the story I wasn't the most fond of, but overall I was really happy with the story. I have a habit of obsessing over books and listening the entire way through with little to know stopping and this narrator made that easy.

My first LitRPG

This was my first intro to LitRPG so I don't know how this compares to others in the genre, but I am an avid reader of fantasy and this hit a lot of good notes for me! Definitely a nice, light listen. Not a complicated plot to follow so you can just enjoy the story and the world building within the game. I don't think you have to be a hardcore gamer to like this. I mostly play RPGs on consoles and have played online shooters so I was able to keep up with most of the gamer talk and was especially able to enjoy the final outcome. I actually LOLed. The narrator is good, but I've heard a lot better within the fantasy genre. He had an enjoyable voice, but not a ton of range in terms of changing voice for the characters. Though there wasn't a ton of opportunity either for him to shine.
