National Bestseller

Sometimes it's not only what we plant, but where we're planted.

Now raising their four-year-old daughter, Indiana, alone, after Joey’s passing, Rory Feek digs deeper into the soil of his life and the unusual choices he and his wife, Joey, made together and the ones he’s making now to lead his family into the future.

When Rory Feek and his older daughters moved into a run-down farmhouse almost 20 years ago, he had no idea of the almost fairy-tale love story that was going to unfold on that small piece of Tennessee land.... and the lessons he and his family would learn along the way.

Now two years after Joey’s passing, as Rory takes their four-year-old daughter Indiana’s hand and walks forward into an unknown future, he takes listeners on his incredible journey from heartbreak to hope and, ultimately, the kind of healing that comes only through faith.

A raw and vulnerable look deeper into Rory’s heart, Once Upon a Farm is filled with powerful stories of love, life, and hope and the insights that one extraordinary, ordinary man in bib overalls has gleamed along the way.

As opposed to homesteading, this is instead a book on lifesteading as Rory learns to cultivate faith, love, and fatherhood on a small farm while doing everything, at times, but farming. With frequent stories of his and Joey’s years together, and how those guide his life today, Rory unpacks just what it means to be open to new experiences.

“This isn’t a how-to book; it’s more of a how we, or more accurately, how He, God, planted us on a few acres of land and grew something bigger than Joey or I could have ever imagined.”

Very, very moving stories.

I'd have to say, the best parts of this book were Hopie's story, and the outtake with Aaron's feelings.
While I loved every chapter (!), I cannot stop thinking of Hopie's giant heart. Her courage astounds me. Bless her heart. Hearing her own story was apparently the what she needed in order to know for sure that she is worthy. That she matters in such a big way.
Hearing Aaron's feelings in my ears touched my heart in a surprising way. I didn't expect to cry as I did.
I cannot recommend this book enough. I'll be searching for the blogs, and imagining myself worshipping at the Cowboy church. In my mind, it is in Mayberry.

Beautiful.

Listening to this book brought up so many different emotions and feelings, mostly love. Rory is such a gifted writer and storyteller. He has something a little extra special about the way he put words to paper, my guess is that it has a little something to do with him being a talented lyricist. The stories remind me of a song, with a rhythm and a cadence that is unique and beautiful. As he reads aloud, it doesn’t sound like he is reading, instead it feels as if you are sitting across the table, listening to him recount the memories of those he loves dearly. I can’t recommend it enough.

Rory, thank you for your vulnerability, authenticity and for being willing to share all that God is doing.

Simple. Powerful. Love.

Literary or not, this is the best kind of book. Honest, challenging, and full of hope.

Truly inspiring

I love country music and there are a lot of performers and song writers that I respect a whole lot. I have read several books about Willie Nelson, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Pardon, and Waylon Jennings. Still out of all the artist in country music Joey and Rory are my favorite. It guess this is because of the simple approach to life and the music that I really admire. This book is more like a blog with several entries, but I absolutely love it just like I loved Rory’s first book. It isn’t just good. It is inspiring. It helps me make sense of the suffering and paints of beautiful picture out of hardships. I feel me and Rory have a lot in common being about the same age, both Marines, and both coming up in a broken home. I love his approach to life and his openness in revealing. His story renews my faith in God more than anything else. It is a reminder that joy can be found in sorrow and meaning through tragedy. This is one of my favorite books of all times. I so badly wish I could meet this man and just enjoy an afternoon talking.
