Publisher's summary

From the multi-award-winning author Christopher Artinian, comes the first book of the post-apocalyptic zombie series people are calling "gripping", "fast paced and full of action", "very realistic", "captivating", "inventive", and "emotional".

The planet has succumbed to a monstrous virus. Those who die from the infection return as savage predators hell-bent on spreading the virus to the rest of the human population. The UK and Ireland are the last hold-outs, but when the infrastructure supporting their self-imposed quarantine collapses, it's everyone for themselves.

Mike Fletcher and his sister Emma live in Leeds. With the city’s streets overrun by the dead, their only option is to flee. They take their younger siblings and set off to find their last remaining relative in the far north-west of Scotland.

As they travel north they encounter other survivors - but who can they trust? Their terrifying journey will require them to confront horrors both human and inhuman, in the outside world and within themselves. Will they ever find a safe haven?

I'm hooked!

At first, I cringed at the thought of a female narrator. I have constant ringing in my ears, so I like male narrators. With that being said...she is an awesome narrator! and the storyline is very enjoyable! Worth my hard earned money for the escape I need from the daily grind of working in the mental health! thank you!

A series I can listen to over and over

Mike and Emma along with their two younger siblings, are thrown into a world of chaos and fear. People are getting sick and dying. Yeah that's pretty normal. What isn't normal is they're coming back to life with a hunger that can't be satisfied. I have read a lot of Zombie Apocalypse books and this is by far one of the better series. The author gives you characters that you love and characters that you hate, choosing different paths to accomplish the same thing. Surviving. Christopher Artinian and Kim Bretton make quite the combo when it comes to story telling. I highly recommend this series Safe Haven along with the fantastic companion series End of Everything.

Starts sad...

but then the excitement starts!
In the opening chapter, we meet the family: Alex, the patriarch, sadly was scratched. Mike and Emma are watching, waiting for that last breath. Their small siblings, Sammy & Jake, awake for the day. Fast forward a bit and there is nothing more heart-wrenching then hearing little Sammy cry, "You killed daddy!"
Per the infection prevention protocols, Leeds is under quarantine, we meet Lucy a physician and her nurse Samantha when they come to confirm that no one else in the household was potentially infected.
As the bombs light up the sky, Mike knows they have to get out of the city...
Mike ends up being my favorite sociopath, he isn't fully since he will do anything to protect those he loves... the action scenes are fun (even in multiple listens).
I do believe all these stories have a fantastic mix of humor, terror and hope. I truly love this series and the sister series which I have coined my "inspirational zombie novels".

Great Start

I love post-apocalyptic book and really enjoyed this zombie one (reanimated corpses RAMS). Love the characters of Mike Fletcher, sister Emma, and step siblings of Sammy and Jake. Poor Mike has to take care of his infected step father Alex when he pasts to prevent him from reanimating. Leeds has become increasingly more infected so family heads out to grandmothers in Scotland. Highly recommend if you like zombies. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. THANK YOU!

Edge-Of-Your Seat Entertainment

This was my first experience with Christopher Artinian's work and I enjoyed it. I really liked that the author kept my attention without describing scenes with over-the-top gore. The book was filled with surprising twists and non-stop action. The characters were interesting and relatable. I recommend this story to others who like this genre. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. Kim Bretton's narration is awesome and her performance helps to draw the listener into the action. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.

The beginning...

Safe Haven-Rise of the RAMs (Book 1 of the Post-Apocalyptic Zombie Horror Series) by Christopher Artinian and narrated by Kim Bretton is the zombie series you should be listening to! If you enjoy a mix of character-driven and plot-driven elements to your zombie story, this is the book for you. If you are looking for a new zombie series, this is it! I highly recommend. 5 stars all around.

What’s it about? The story starts out in the midst of the zompoc. Mike and Emma learn they are not safe in the quarantine zones and they, along with their younger siblings make their way to their grandmother’s house in Scotland. Unfortunately the trip is a difficult one as they meet some good and some no-so-good people along the way. You will find yourself rooting for Mike and his group. You get a nice variety of zombie scenes and character development. The characters are not perfect and the development is great.

The narrator, Kim Bretton, was fabulous. I’ve been listening to her for all of Christopher’s series and gladly jumped on the chance to listen with Kim in the narrator seat. She is an asset to the story with narration.

This is a re-listen as I was given the opportunity to and I’ve forgotten how great it is until I started again. Overall I highly recommend, especially if you’re looking for a new Z book, looking to venture into the zompoc genre, or just looking for something new.

Parental guidance/trigger warnings: death (multiple ways- people and Z's), torture of a man, kidnapping of women/girls for sex, swearing throughout (f, s, or similar words), guns, knives, and like things.

Zompoc

Excellent narration. Interesting characters. Intense action and emotional moments. Perfect pacing. In for book two. Why do you have a 15 word minimum.
