Publisher's summary

Thriller Award Winner, Best E-book Original Novel, 2018

Over the years, former military bodyguard Ryan Lock has made more than his fair share of enemies. It was only a matter of time before one of them came looking for payback....

A serial rapist brutally murdered inside California's highest-security prison for women. A frantic gun battle in the middle of downtown Los Angeles. A beautiful, young defense attorney violently abducted from her office.

A series of apparently random events that are anything but. Someone is hell bent on revenge, and their target's name is Ryan Lock.

History has a way of repeating itself...

What did you like best about this story?

It paralleled one of Sean Black's earlier books. When Lock's girlfriend is kidnapped, in that book his girlfriend dies I will not say how this book ends.

Which character – as performed by Grant Pennington – was your favorite?

Grant Pennington does an excellent job narrating all the characters.

Any additional comments?

This is a very good addition to the Ryan Lock series. Lock can believe his luck when he find someone he loves for the second time. When his previous girlfriend is killed years earlier he doesn't think he will ever find anyone else but he does. Now his new girlfriend is kidnapped and Lock is given a choice. He can break a female member of a white supremacist group out of a maximum security prison and get his girlfriend back or she will be killed. What Lock doesn't count on is his partner Ty Johnson getting arrested and he and his girlfriend (Carmen) both ending up handcuffed in the back of a truck being driven by the kidnappers.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Loved trying to figure it out

I loved trying to figure it all out as the story progressed. Listened to it twice.

The read is terrible, the book is ok.

There are lots of dumb decisions that make no sense and fancy “tactical” terms that add nothing to the story, but the narration is just bad. It’s like listening to a grandpa read Tom Clancy while he tries not to drool on the book.

Responsibility

Usually it annoys me when characters in books go around blaming themselves for various deaths of other characters In this book the opposite is true. Innocent people are killed every chapter and it never occurs to the ‘hero’ to stop his quest.

I listened the whole way through but I didn’t enjoy it.
