Conspiracy, intrigue, and the supernatural

I would rank this book in the top 2 of all the audiobooks I've listened to. It was very well narrated and engaging.

Any additional comments?

Conspiracy, intrigue, government cover-ups, and the supernatural meet in She Is Risen: The Gun Control Case Studies. An unethical congressman embodies the classic "do the ends justify the means?" storyline, while the reader gets a gripping and convincing glimpse inside the world of politics. Natural and comfortable character dialogue is neatly interspersed between exciting action and sinister behind-the-scenes conversation, building believability.

If you're the kind of person who likes to think with an open mind and wonders what really goes on behind closed doors in government agencies or how real the presence of the supernatural is in our world, you'll enjoy this suspenseful book.

Story Grew As If A Magic Beanstalk In My Garden

Would you listen to She Is Risen: The Gun Control Case Studies again? Why?

Sure believe me no one is more stunned than me that this is well worth the listen but believe me it is in fact worth the listen. The characters are written so well and so detailed that you really get who they are and what they are prepared to do. In order to move their personal and professional agenda forward.

Who was your favorite character and why?

You will learn to love May who manages to keep it together how I am not sure but she does it.

Which scene was your favorite?

If you are anything like me I know what you are thinking after reading the blurb. “Her three visits per week to the shooting range have put May on an exclusive list of people that are being monitored for gun violence” The same thing I thought “yeah right.” However, like me you would be totally wrong don’t let the blurb fool you. It is that very wacky theory that turns this from a ho-hum high intrigue, suspense government conspiracy book. This book turns the premise into a fascinating and compelling journey through the reality of government top secret research and covert actions.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

One of my favorite additions to the current glut in technology is the option of audio books. I spend much of my time in retirement doing what I always vowed I would do. Create the perfect whimsical, sprawling flower garden. Well for all of you out there with this goal it is a long, lonely boring task. Hello! It just got made easier with discovery of the audio book.
I weeded three entire beds I was so into this book I did not want to quit gardening as I have a rule audio books in the garden only.

Any additional comments?

I loved this book and the narrator has a great voice that translates well on tape. It is an art reading a book out loud and this particular narrator does a great job.

I recommend this book highly go on take a walk on the wild side. Get the book and get out in that garden and do something. You might be surprised how much you get done by embracing the ‘audio books allowed only in the garden.’ I’m giving this five stars because it was a wonderful book and the plus my yard looks great.

Political thriller with a touch of the paranormal

Where does She Is Risen: The Gun Control Case Studies rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The fantastic narration puts this at the top of my list.

Any additional comments?

I wasn't sure I'd like this at first. I'm all about a good conspiracy theory, but the idea of making someone go insane by sending them to the gun range three times a week was, well, ludicrous. I mean, I go to the range five days a week, and I'm not barking mad yet. However, the story was gripping and the premise of a crooked politician damning the means to justify the ends is absolutely believable. The moral dilemma Devlin faces as he comes to grips with Henri's actions was pretty powerful.

I really enjoyed the paranormal aspect, which has always been the darling of the tin foil hat crowd. The way it was worked into the story was seamless, and of course if such a thing did exist you know our government would pull out all the stops to 1) put it to use for its own good, and 2) keep the rest of us completely in the dark about it.

Overall I appreciated this story far more than I imagined, and the wonderful narration made it that much more potent. If you're into conspiracies, government agencies run amok, or the paranormal, you'll love She Is Risen.

A Brilliant Story; Well written

What did you love best about She Is Risen: The Gun Control Case Studies?

I loved the plot, and the fact that the story was very well written and captivating. There were a lot of twists and turns and plenty of suspense.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The plot kept me on the edge of my seat because it kept evolving, I did not know what to expect next. I was so intrigued I wanted to fast forward to the end, hear how the story ended and then return to read the rest.

Have you listened to any of Heidi Madagame’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

Any additional comments?

If you believe in conspiracy theories, you would love this book as it seems to buttresses the fact that there is nothing that simply happens without the government being involved in some sinister way or the other. Also, if political thrillers are your thing, then you will find this book very interesting. From the beginning of the book, we are thrust into the ongoing conflict between Representative Henry Edward and Ex-military man Colonel Devlin.Representative Henry is running the H.E.N.A program. This program seeks to prevent gun violence and does this through the use of vulnerable people. Its aim is to see what would trip these people up and lead them to becoming violent, using a firearm. Henry makes use of unusual and unethical methods to try and prove his theories and make up impressive numbers for the government. Devlin on the other hand, who happens to be involved with the CIA, does not want to have anything to do with this program because of the nature in which it is run. He decides he no longer wants to be part of the organisation running the programme and opts out. He seeks to expose Henry and finds this very difficult as Henry puts up a stiff opposition to Devlin. The story moves progressively from one scene to the next tying together all the intricate details. I was kept on the edge of my seat not knowing what to expect next. I found the author’s style of writing persuasive and captivating. The suspense was so intense that I was tempted on many occasions to go and listen to the end of the book and then return to listen the rest. I am glad I persevered, as the end was worth waiting for. I look forward to listening to the sequel to this book. I did not necessarily enjoy the paranormal aspect of this story, however I think it gives the book its own unique flavour. The author does a good job of trying to balance the gun control argument by looking at both sides of the argument. This book is brilliant all the way; I really enjoyed it.

An absorbing plot driven thriller

Would you listen to She Is Risen: The Gun Control Case Studies again? Why?

I definitely plan to listen to it again. The crisp and clean writing style is almost Grisham-esqe as it relentlessly drives the story forward with no waste of words. Coupling that with the skillful blending of a political conspiracy thriller with a supernatural element inspired me to imagine what kind of writing might have emerged if John Grisham had met Robert Ludlum for dinner at Stephen King’s house.

What did you like best about this story?

I love books that grab me from the very first chapter and refuse to let go. With "She Is Risen", Travis Adams Irish uses one of the hot button political issues of American culture to craft an absorbing, plot driven thriller that smacks you right between the eyes with the force of a juggernaut.

What does Heidi Madagame bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

As a fan of the original print version of this book, I found the audio version to provide an entirely new and exciting experience. Heidi Madagame delivers a virtuoso performance as narrator that is both haunting and captivating.

Any additional comments?

This book isn’t for the faint of heart, but its frenetic, edge-of-your-seat pacing provides the perfect fuel to stoke the fire in the bellies of fans of dark thrillers…at least for those who don’t mind an occasional rush of adrenaline.

Wonderful Thriller

I read quite a few books on the Kindle and it is rare that I come across one that I cannot put down like this one. I ended up getting this version so that i could finish it on a long trip I was taking. All I can say is that this book helped the miles fly by.

The plot twists are really good and just when i thought that I had it all figured out then the author throws another curve ball that I never saw coming.

I thought that the writing flowed well and brought the characters and story to life. I enjoyed this book quite a lot and am looking forward to seeing what else this writer produces.

Riveting and Weird as Heck

If you could sum up She Is Risen: The Gun Control Case Studies in three words, what would they be?

riveting, weird, descriptive

Who was your favorite character and why?

Henri Edwards because he is one sick, sadistic individual. His compulsion to prove his theories right at any cost, including a very real human cost, tied the story together.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Heidi Madagame's voice was very stilted and monotonous. There were times that if it weren't for the author's compelling storytelling, I would've been asleep.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I was creeped out by the book and the level of description of truly graphic and horrific things.

Any additional comments?

This novel took me completely out of my comfort zone. I enjoy political thrillers; I enjoy books about the supernatural; and I even enjoy books that are sometimes a little creepy. But when they all get rolled into one book, I honestly get weirded out. This book was just too much for me. With that said, I stayed hooked until the very end, and it left me wanting more (a sequel, perhaps?). Reading the descriptions of outlandish, horrific, sadistic, and terrifying acts was much akin to watching a car accident: I know it's wrong, but I just couldn't look away. The only real detraction for this audible book is the narration. I found it stilted and often monotonous. However, Travis Adams Irish's storytelling kept me riveted. This is not a book for the faint of heart.
