About this listen

When society collapses, one family will do whatever it takes to stay together

Shane McDonald is working at the Sequoyah Nuclear Plant when a solar storm wipes out the grid. He's desperate to reach his family, but they're hundreds of miles away, and the world is falling apart around him. With a blind daughter to protect, finding his way back to his loved ones will be a dangerous journey, across treacherous terrain.

Jodi McDonald gathers her brother and son and heads for her prepper mother's house in rural Georgia. There, the family braces for the coming nightmare. Unprepared townspeople want to steal their supplies. A vicious gang wants revenge. All the McDonalds want is to be left alone, but peace won't come without a fight.

When drought and fire drive them from their refuge, the McDonalds must take to the road. Battered by grief and hardship, they must rely on each other to survive. But the greatest danger of all might come from within the family itself

Bad, complete garbage

I’m not sure why this was written away it was but it’s so absolutely unbelievably bad that I had to returnit. I read or listen to hundreds of post apocalyptic books and this one is just unbelievable. The teams used are mostly incorrect or flat out wrong,
A prepper grandma that doesn’t know how to use a shotgun? Really… husband that works at a nuclear plant and stop some meltdown, but can’t figure out why the cars aren’t working?

Excellent book set

From book 1 to 6 you’re glued and this is an amazing story! The narrator did an amazing performance and was able to give each character their own voice without sounding so forced.

Story dragged on with filler words

This set has to be one of,if not the worst post apocalyptic book set I have ever listened to. The chapters seemed to drag on and on with stupidly from the main characters it was a relief when Mike, new mayor and grayson were written off aka passed away. I’m not sure if this is the writer’s style or not, but some common sense with the main characters would have went a long way. The beginning of the Chapters were far too easy to figure out what would happen at the end of the chapter so bad That I skipped forward just to confirm what I knew would happen. If your on a budget and want something just to listen too but not get into then this is your set. The only redeeming value with these books is the reader is phenomenal. Other than that buy and enjoy if you can!

narrator almost blew it for me.

story is pretty good The characters don't ever seem to fall into the post-apocalyptic world where they get a little more hardened they always seem to be innocent in book one to book five. so I would have to say average. however the narrator says Libary and not LibRary and that is just erksome as hell. if it were to enhance the way characters speak that would be one thing but there are many many times where it's not the character speaking it's someone thinking or doing and the narrator just cannot say this word correct. if you can get past that though it's a good average story

A Story of love, loss, and family

This book follows the lives of a family. It describes how they work to survive and try to thrive in their own way following a Coronal Mass Injection into the power grid. The six book series covers the different aspects of their work to survive.

Both the author and narrator bring the struggles to life. Understanding this series is not only heart wrenching but also makes one think about how the reader might react to this situation.

Put me to sleep along with the sequel The Ruins

I applaud the authors with keeping each character on point and not making noticeable mistakes. This reads more like a medieval soap opera than an actual post apocalyptic story. There are mentions of the infected, but the whole book appears to be a piece by piece telling of the daily lives of the villagers with a few mentions of run ins with the infected. I feel mislead a little and couldn't finish the diatribe of filler content. It drags on and on and on and on with nothing really noteworthy to keep you interested. There is a follow up book "The Ruins" which appears to be a continuation of the 40 hours with an additional 39 hours of the same thing. 2 credits down the tubes.

poorly conceived. Very little critical, thinking given to the effects of a power outage.

I struggle to find anything positive to say. Very average writing, plotting and world building they may have heard of the show don’t tell rule but they clearly wanted nothing to do with it!
