Publisher's summary

Reader's Favorite 2022 Gold Medal Winner for True Crime.

Retired DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Detective Lt. Robbo Davidson is awakened night after night by ghosts of his investigations' past.

"I ruminate on those old investigations, realizing some things seen stain the brain as surely as the iron-laden soil of western Louisiana forever changes the color of whatever it touches. You cannot wash red dirt out of clothing, and you cannot unsee what you have seen."

The retired detective resolves to give voice to his ghosts in this collection of true crime stories straight from his case files.

So true and so sad.

My family lived in Mansfield in 1980-1981. I felt like I was there again listening to these true stories. My teenage daughter ran away from home when we were there. Robbo helped locate her and get her back home to us. We were so lucky, because I later learned the men who took her raped her. She was only 13 years old. Later they were arrested for shooting someone. I'm so grateful Robbo was there.

Perspective is everything

As a former patrol sergeant, I witnessed many things I wish I hadn’t. I know almost all of the people in this book. I know most of them to be honest, hard working, dependable, members of the legal system. Did not always agree with every decision they made but had their back just like they had mine.
Robert “Robbo” Davidson made plenty of enemies over the years. He also put lots of dangerous people away.
He assisted me a few times when I needed backup and sometimes when I never called for any.
I remember I pulled over a known drug dealer one night. I found 630 grams of Crystal in his truck. This guy was dangerous and I had plenty of backup. But I look up at one point and Robbo’s easily identifiable Chevy Caprice with it’s blacked out windows was sitting across the street watching my back! I will always appreciate that!
The stories told in this book are from Robbo’s perspective. But I applaud him for the effort to get details right and accurate.
Very good book, especially if you’ve never been involved with a lengthy and nearly over whelming investigation. Lots of insight into how it really happens.
