Unique

Not the most brilliant criminal but definitely not what I expected. This book is an interesting dive into another time and another culture that keeps you guessing as things unfold.

great story - poorly read

wonderful noir take full of requests and turns, spoiled by awkward, stilted reading and poorly pronounced words.

NAIVELY ODD

It's hard to like or dislike this novel because it is so naive. It's sort of a pastiche of crime/mystery/suspense plots and situations against a japanese background decorated with lots of adjectives like 'thrilling' 'sinister' 'dark' 'forbidding' 'forboding' 'surprising' but never ever actually gets you intrigued or involved. It's almost YA in style but not. I haven't been able to finish it - just cant build any momentum...
