Publisher's summary

One afternoon in May, Zoe Duncan's 13-year-old daughter goes missing from her own backyard. The police think Samantha ran away because she's unhappy about her mother's upcoming marriage - but Zoe doesn't believe it. In fact, she's willing to do anything to bring Sam home, even if it means losing her job, her beautiful home, her fiancé. Even if it means divulging all her secrets to a private investigator.

Jonathan Stivers is a P.I. who donates his time to The Last Stand, a victims' charity in Sacramento. He's good at what he does, the best. But never has he had fewer leads to work with - or been more attracted to a client. Jonathan's sure of only one thing: Sam was taken by someone close to the family. He doesn't know how close until he realizes that the "perfect" couple next door is anything but.

Intriguing read!

What did you like about this audiobook?

The book was well paced and the character development of each subject person was masterfully done. This book kept me on the edge of my seat.

How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?

I never thought about crime taking place right next door.

Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful, and if so, how does he achieve this?

Yes. The author knows how to engage each character with one another. The dialogues were well written.

What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?

Cannot answer this question because the narrator's performance was stellar.

Do you have any additional comments?

Highly recommend but not for the faint at heart.

very good and keeps your interest.

This is the first Brenda Novak story and I found it interesting enough to purchase another book of her work. It was worth the purchase.

Great book and a must read!!

Very suspenseful and it had me pacing the floor, and wanting to yell at the characters. Colin and Tiffany kidnaped Zoe Duncan's daughter Sam. Zoe falls for investigator Jonathon Stivers who is still in love with co-worker Sheridan who married her high school lover. Together, they encounter almost unbelievable brutality in their quest to rescue Sam.

Best book so far

This was the best book thus far in this series. My only complaint or what I didn't like was the fact that within a week of her daughter missing she was having sex. I just couldn't wrap my head around that.

Too close to BDSM Erotica for my taste.

Story is interesting, but too little time is spent on the actual story. Narrator did a good job, I fast forwarded through the majority of it.

Great Read

The Perfect Couple (The Last Stand, #4) was a great read by Brenda Novak. Zoe’s thirteen year old daughter, Samantha, went missing from their backyard. Because Samantha wasn’t happy about Zoe’s upcoming marriage, the police think that she’s run away. Zoe doesn’t believe that and will stop at nothing to bring Sam home. She winds up telling a private investigator, Jonathan, all of her secrets. Jonathan believes that someone very close to the family took Samantha. He never thought it could be the “perfect” couple next door until he realized that they weren’t as “perfect” as they seemed. I loved Zoe and Jonathan’s story and can’t wait to read more by Brenda Novak.

So so at best

The story line was very predictable. The narration was so bad. Why do they hire narrators who try to be dramatic? It is so irritating and phony. Really can't recommend this book. The reviews were good, but didn't find anything to make it above below average, and the narration could have made it a much better listen.
