About this listen
The Ruling Sea begins where Robert V. S. Redick's acclaimed The Red Wolf Conspiracy ended: Thasha's wedding is hours away. It is a wedding that will both fulfill the promise of a mad god's return and see her murdered. Pazel has thwarted the sorcerer who would bring back the god but both sides now face deadlock. Can Thasha be saved? Can the war between two Empires be stopped?
The Ruling Sea is, once again, focused on the giant ancient ship Chathrand, but now she must brave the terrors of the uncharted seas---the massive storms and the ship-swallowing whirlpools---and explore lands forgotten by the Northern world, all the time maintaining a vicious running battle with a ship half her size but nearly her match.
A masterpiece of plotting and adventure, Redick's new novel takes the listener further into the labyrinthine plots and betrayals that have underscored the trilogy from the beginning. We learn more about the Ixchel as they fight for survival against the Chathrand's rats, discover more about the true motives of conspirators, live with Thasha and Pazel as they face death and deceit, and watch as the Chathrand sails into the infamous Ruling Sea.

Story
Kandri Hinjuman was never meant to be a soldier. His brother Mektu was never meant for this world. Rivals since childhood, they are drafted into a horrific war led by a madwoman-Prophet, and survive each day only by hiding their disbelief. Kandri is good at blending in, but Mektu is hopeless: impulsive, erratic - and certain that a demon is stalking him. Is this madness or a second sense? Either way, Kandri knows that Mektu's antics will land them both in early graves. But all bets are off when the brothers' simmering feud explodes into violence, and holy blood is spilled.

Beautiful Queen Inos married the loyal stableboy Rap and made him her king. They were very much in love, and they lived happily ever after. Fifteen years went by. Rap and Inos were comfortable, secure, and truly happy, raising their family in the little backwater kingdom of Krasnegar, well removed from the hurly-burly of great affairs.... What a let down!
After such a promising first book, this was a very long nothing. If it was meant to instill the interminable tedium of a long sea voyage, it succeeded. The series is becalmed.
Perhaps the conflicts and events that arose from them are in some way necessary to the plot at some point, but it did not feel to me as if they were weighty enough to carry a whole book. In fact, this volume seemed to have no plot; no beginning, no middle, no end. It was just a lot of events and conflicts strung together from one to the next.
I don’t know if I will continue with the series. At least not right now.

a amazing journey
First review I have written. Absolutely amazing writing with a story line that makes you wonder about the authors life to have such an imagination. I chose this book for the narrator but the author is going into my purchase every book they write next to joe Abercrombie, kel kade, don winslow and a few others. thanks for the ride.

Excellent
I was a bit worried after the first installment that this trilogy would be another copycat fantasy with limited plot. Happily, I was nicely surprised that this second book surpassed the first, and was a really enjoyable and engrossing listen.
Michael Page gives one of the best readings I have ever heard (right up there with Rob Inglis and Roy Dotrice) and manages to have distinct, recognizable voices for each and every character. I look forward to the finale!

Uggh!
Glad I read the Red Wolf Conspiracy...wonderful book and so is The Ruling Sea. The only problem is the narrator..he's so distracting with his summer stock Shakespearean delivery. He rolls every "R", screeches and just generally overacts . It's like listenning to Sideshow Mel and the old ladies from Monty Python for 20 hours.

A great adventure!
This second story starts right where the last left off with all of the first book's adventure, intrigue, sorcery and emotion. And that continues all the way to its blockbuster finale.
These books have a classic feel, like I'm reading Treasure Island all over again.
The reader is amazing! There are few readers that could have brought these stories to life like Michael Page. He has me casting the movie in my mind.
Everyone raves about Patrick Rothfuss and deservedly so. After reading his first book I thought seriously about reading the next right away but changed my mind.
On the other hand, these stories I am DEVOURING. I cannot wait to find out what happens next!

Great story, well read
Would you listen to The Ruling Sea again? Why?
I dont tend to re-read/listen.
What other book might you compare The Ruling Sea to and why?
Lies of Locke Lamora. They are both large stories with many well developed characters. The same narator also helps.
Which character – as performed by Michael Page – was your favorite?
Hercole (sp?)
Any additional comments?
Just that it is a great book. very entertaining with a lot of well developed characters and suspense.

Cliff Hanger Alert!!!!!!
Let me start by saying that this is a fairly well written and thought out book. Its sole problem is that the author or editor seems to have forgotten that books should have a beginning, a story line, and a conclusion. Unfortunately, after listening to this book for over 27 hours, the author or editor chose to conclude the book with a cliff hanger. I have not doubt the intention is to force readers and listeners to purchase the next book in the series. To me this is a big turn off for any author. My recommendation to perspective listeners is that you should not purchase this book until the next in the series comes out. Even then, you should only purchase this book if the author and editor figures out how to write a proper conclusion. A good author could have done so quite easily with this story line.
