About this listen
The Woman is the powerful story of the last survivor of a feral tribe of cannibals who have been terrorizing the East Coast - from Maine into Canada - for years now. Badly wounded in a battle with police, a woman takes refuge in a cave overlooking the sea. Christopher Cleek is a slick, amoral - and unstable - country lawyer who, out hunting one day, sees her bathing in a stream. Fascinated, he follows her to her cave.
Cleek has many dark secrets and to these he'll add another. He will capture her, lock in his fruit cellar, in order to tame her, civilize her. To this end, he'll enlist his long-suffering wife Belle, his teenage son, Brian, and daughter, Peg, and even his little girl, Darlin', to aid him. So the question soon becomes: who is more savage? The hunter or the game?

Story
Suburbia. Shady, tree-lined streets; well-tended lawns; and cozy homes. A nice, quiet place to grow up. Unless you are teenage Meg or her crippled sister, Susan. On a dead-end street, in the dark, damp basement of the Chandler house, Meg and Susan are left captive to the savage whims and rages of a distant aunt who is rapidly descending into madness. It is a madness that infects all three of her sons and finally the entire neighborhood. Only one troubled boy stands hesitantly between Meg and Susan and their cruel, torturous deaths.

Story
It was the summer of 1965. Ray, Tim, and Jennifer were just three teenage friends hanging out in the campgrounds, drinking a little. But Tim and Jennifer didn't know what their friend Ray had in mind. And if they'd known, they wouldn't have thought he was serious. Then they saw what he did to the two girls at the neighboring campsite - and knew he was dead serious...Ray figured he was in the clear. Tim and Jennifer thought the worst was behind them, that the horrors were all in the past. They were wrong. The worst was yet to come.

Story
Lydia McCloud meets Arthur Danse at a wedding party in Plymouth, N.H., and she thinks he's a man she could grow to love. Arthur sees things differently. In Lydia, he sees the sort of woman people always want to protect. He decides he's going to show her she wouldn't always be protected. Once their only child, Robert, is born, Arthur's behavior worsens. When the courts become involved, the nightmare really begins. This scathing novel is an indictment of a justice system that makes a mockery of its very name.

Soon, they return from the grave, and ask for blood. And with blood, they stop being dead. They continue to remain the children they once were, but only for a short time, as they need more blood to live. The average human body holds 10 pints of blood, so the inevitable question for parents everywhere becomes: How far would you go to bring your child back?

Sex! Violence! Incest! S&M! Abuse! Sexploitation!
This is a unique and deeply disturbing book about the consequences of messing with mother nature and all of her wonderful children. There's a very important lesson to be learned from this insightful book.
It's like the movie "Falling Down" set deep in the forest, with a female protagonist who uses her other attributes to achieve her goal of getting back at a world that's beaten her down.
Although disturbing, I enjoyed it greatly and was happier for having read it.

The Woman is a tale of madness and depravity
Great 3 rd novel sequel to Off-season and Offspring was made into a by the numbers movie excellently played by Irish actress Pollyanna MacIntosh, The Woman, showed how a civilized family can dwell into the depths of depravity and madness, just as quick as the savage,The Woman, can muster up a iota of compassion for her captors. Loved the ending and for those grossed out by this story, I have to ask? Have you ever read Jack Ketchum before? Do you even know the term splatter punk and what it means? Go back to your Dean Koontz novels and quit insulting one of the masters of the genre .

She is woman, hear her roar!
Another Jack Ketchum Lucky McKee masterpiece in horror! Revealing anything about the plot would spoil it for the reader. Just know that it is not for the faint of heart.
Chet Williamson’s narration chillingly brings to life each of the characters. I will definitely be looking for other books narrated by him.

Great follow up
I enjoyed this book and the first one, ‘Off Season’. I wish this one were longer and full of more details but it was still a great listen.

Horror, Jack Ketchum Style
Like most good Horror stories, this gets creepier as it goes along for a finale, with several cool twists. It is book three in a series, but it is not necessary to have read the other two books. It is interesting to see who the bad guys are and who the good guys are. The book does involve rape, torture and incest. It was entertaining throughout and appealed to my sophomoric intellect. If your a Jack Ketchum fan, you need to add this to your collection.

Great and Brutal Story
I will say I watched the movie long before I knew there was a book. The movie was raw and the book is even more so. I felt they were very close so I wasn't as excited to hear almost the same dialogue, but I still really enjoyed listening to the source material for the movie. If you haven't seen the movie do yourself a favor and watch it after you listen to the book. Was hoping that the book would be longer but glad it wasn't as I couldn't stop listening once I started, even knowing how it ends I was hooked and had to make it through in one sitting. This book is brutally dark, graphic, twisted and totally an awesome listen. Those familiar with Ketchum's work will know exactly what you are instore for, those who are not just be warned about the graphic nature of this book. Either way, sit back, listen, and enjoy. Chet Williamson, as always, did a great job with the narration. I loved his character voices and the overall ambiance he adds to the story. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

A perfect story.
A great mix of violence and sexuality without going overboard on either. Daddy isn't well!
