In TOO MUCH, a young woman embarks on a journey of self-discovery and resilience as she navigates the challenges of mental health, addiction, and systemic dysfunction within the demanding field of military medicine.

Vividly honest

The author vividly describes her struggles with addiction, mental illness and medical environments offering few supports and awful obstacles. She skillfully renders the price people pay for toxic work environments that are all too common. The narrator beautifully embodies the author's rage, frustration, confusion and longing. The wonderful authenticity of her reading allows the listener to ride, understand and feel the turbulent ups and downs the author faces and fears.

Courageous

The author chose a good title for this book. So many neurodivergent people have received this message, "You're too much!" whether verbalized or implied, throughout their lives. Dr. Neighbors takes us through her experiences navigating life as an ENT Resident in the Army while struggling with Bipolar Disorder.

As the author relates her story, we hear the struggles of colleagues and friends to accept and understand her, often judging and rejecting her instead. But more importantly, we hear her inner struggles to manage her Bipolar Disorder, the mood swings, addiction, the interpersonal conflicts, the isolation and loneliness that people with this disorder experience.

Dr. Neighbors' courage, in putting this out there, called to my mind Dr. Kay Jamison's disclosure of her Bipolar diagnosis in AN UNQUIET MIND. Books like this remind us that the afflicted person feels their own "too muchness" ALL of the time, having to work twenty times harder than the rest of us just to manage ordinary life, much less to belong and succeed in the world.

This memoir so honestly reveals the intense psychological, social, and emotional pain of this disorder on every page, so Dr. Neighbor's choice of narrator was perfect. Rachel Doolen respectfully navigates crisis after crisis with a smooth voice that softens the edges of the "too much", inviting the listener to understand the author from the inside, and to hold on until the end. I'm glad I did.

A Captivating and Thrilling Memoir!

A Captivating and Thrilling Memoir That Leaves a Lasting Impact ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This book is exactly what the description says it is: an absolutely gripping, emotional, and deeply engaging memoir that takes readers on a powerful journey through the struggles of mental health, addiction, and the challenges of military medicine.

From the very beginning, this audiobook pulls you in and refuses to let go, immersing you in a raw and unfiltered story of resilience and survival.

Neighbors' storytelling is nothing short of superb, her ability to capture the complexities of trauma while weaving a compelling narrative is masterful. The way she exposes the systemic dysfunction within military medicine is both eye-opening and heartbreaking, making this a must-listen for anyone seeking an honest look at the realities many face but few speak about.

The narration is equally exceptional, drawing the listener in with a sense of urgency and authenticity that makes every moment feel real. The emotional depth, combined with the thrilling intensity of her experiences, makes this audiobook impossible to put down.

This memoir is not just a story, it's an experience. It's raw, profound, and deeply moving, leaving listeners both shaken and inspired. An absolute must-listen for anyone who appreciates powerful, courageous storytelling.

Genuine… Emotional… Powerful

“Too Much” is a raw and intimate account about the extraordinary journey that the author went through with strong emotions and grit, when all things were against her, amid dark shadows of medical residency in the US. Highly recommend medical students, residents, even the program directors to read and listen.

Too Much is a great audiobook!

This is a great personal story. The narrator’s voice is excellent and it’s a pleasure to listen to this audiobook. The narration is intimate and touching at times… and intense at times as the author’s frustrations and dilemmas are revealed. The author’s dreams and ambitions are challenged within toxic environments that exist not only in medical and military fields, but may be found throughout many readers’ experiences. I loved the author’s ultimate acceptance of the changes in her life. The author’s contemplation of life and reflections of her experiences are great.
