Publisher's summary

Inhabitants of planet Earth are confronted with the reality that by 2050, or sooner, large parts of the Earth could be uninhabitable. We are indisputably living in the Sixth Great Extinction. We know that countless humans are reeling with climate anxiety and experiencing fear, anger, grief, despair, dread, and understandably attempting to cope with the reality of potential human extinction with massive amounts of denial.

This audiobook offers an alternative to being consumed with either denial or despair. At its core is the existential issue of climate catastrophe and how to live into it with compassionate, clear-eyed, vibrant, awakened intention. While this perspective is harrowing, even more formidable is the prospect of doing so in a global milieu in which deeply divided nations and individuals are opting to abandon democratic institutions and procedures in favor of authoritarian models of governance.

Undaunted offers neither phony fixes nor merciless melancholy in the face of our daunting predicament. It assumes that both the listener and the author will face moments of despair going forward, but it offers skills and practices for living undaunted in the face of humanity’s most unprecedented ordeals.

Baker does what few are willing to do: face the truth about our predicament

I’ve been reading Carolyn Baker‘s books since I ran across one of her early books: “walking the spiritual path of the collapse of civilization,” which really caught my eye. I’ve been working in policy (Congress, state legislatures, courts, PUCs) for over 40 years, and in energy policy for 20. What is becoming more and more obvious, especially in the last couple of years, is that we are not headed to a good place. We could’ve addressed many of our problems, including climate change, biodiversity loss, poverty, but we didn’t. Instead, the greedy psychopaths who run things are throwing their own children and grandchildren completely under the bus. Want to understand why this is happening? Carolyn‘s background in history informs her psychology, and IMHO she is spot on. I’ve always been surprised that Carolyn is not a best seller. Perhaps it shows my naïveté, because what Carolyn is talking about is what people need to hear but choose NOT to. We’d rather have reality TV than actual reality. As the level of cognitive dissonance in our society grows louder and louder, Carolyn Baker will help you to deal with all of it. Thanks for another great book CB!
