Publisher's summary

From the New York Times bestselling author of The Girl at the Border comes a haunting thriller about one woman’s journey into the painful truths threatening to destroy her.

When Tara Peary’s twin sister Sophie goes missing, Tara dives into New York’s underbelly to find her. Sophie is the one person who’s ever truly understood her, and Tara knows her sister isn’t the only one who needs help.

Tara is also on the run emotionally from her complicated childhood. Her memories are threatening to overwhelm her emotions and derail the hunt for Sophie. A psychotherapist keeps her afloat, but when Tara begins dating her therapist’s young tech-millionaire neighbor, she risks losing the only lifelines she has left.

The more Tara uncovers about her sister’s disappearance and the dark side of the rich elite, the less certain of the truth she becomes. As Tara reaches the center of the mystery, spanning from her childhood home in Georgia to a Southern California beach, she has to decide whether the truth is a price she’s willing to pay.

Until We Are Lost

This was a well-written, creative piece of writing. As someone who has experience with this subject matter, I find it to be accurate and supports the brilliant mind that is able to cope with painful and repeated abuse. I love that the therapists and friends were so helpful and understanding. I have to say that has not been my experience, but it is fiction.

I would love to read more from this author.

Far too much going on

This book sounded like it was going to be dark and twisty. It started slow but somewhat interesting. Then, the author crammed almost every social justice issue (gender identity, drug abuse, single mother, racial relation, police profiling/brutality, etc) controversial political issue (ICE. immigration policies, “current administration,” “things like that happen a lot nowadays”) and disturbing thing that can happen to people (ie: molestation, rape, almost rape, drug use, inappropriate sexual behavior, etc). Top it off with the addition of secret governmental crime sting operation. The switch between characters was confusing and unclear. Ton of build up to an extremely rushed ending that was rather disingenuous. It was difficult to figure out what was going on most of the time, most of it not even remotely believable. This book was poorly researched and contained many terms that were used inappropriately. Sorry, not my cup of tea.
