  • 'Mama' Producer with Anita Abada
    Jul 15 2022

Our guest is big on impact-driven stories about social issues. She wrote and directed “Efun (Flesh),” a short film on female genital mutilation which won a special prize at the World Health Organisation’s Health for All Film Festival. She was among the 21 African Filmmakers shortlisted for the Netflix-UNESCO African Folktales Reimagined competition.

If you watched the Script2Screen Africa reality show in 2018, you might recognise her as the winner of the Best Screenplay award. Allow me to introduce Anita Abada.

  • Jack of 'Nearly' All Trades with Loukman Ali
    Jul 8 2022

Loukman Ali is a Ugandan filmmaker whose first feature film, Girl in The Yellow Jumper was the first Ugandan film to get on Netflix.

Earlier this year, he was announced as one of the six finalists in the Netflix-UNESCO short film competition. Around the same time, he came to Nigeria to direct Brotherhood, a film produced by Jade Osiberu.

In this episode, we talk about Loukman’s journey, the Ugandan film industry and his lessons from making Girl in the Yellow Jumper. If nothing else, you need to listen for some of the crazy stuff that happened when he was making that film.

If you haven’t watched a Loukman Ali film, I highly recommend that you do. Watch Girl in the Yellow Jumper on Netflix. Find links to his short films here -
