• Answering God's Call: Mary's Song and Our Response
    Dec 19 2024

    Send us a text

For this fourth Sunday in Advent, we eavesdrop on the greeting between Elizabeth, mother-to-be of John the Baptist, and Mary, who has learned from the angel Gabriel that she will give birth to a son, Jesus. Elizabeth, Mary's older cousin, recognizes the work of God in Mary's life and rejoices with her. Mary responds with her own song of joy, hope, strength and confidence in God. This is an amazing encounter between two women whom God calls to an extraordinary experience. Luke 1:39-55 is the complete text -- here we focus on verses 41-45. Thanks for listening.

  • Encountering God: Truth Revealed in Jesus
    Nov 22 2024

What if the truth you've been living by isn't the truth at all? Join me, Chuck Warnock, as we unravel the profound encounter between Jesus and Pontius Pilate—a pivotal moment that challenges our understanding of power, truth, and the kingdom "not of this world." As we journey through John 18:33-37, we see Jesus unflinchingly stand before Pilate, revealing a truth that transcends worldly authority and invites us into a deeper understanding of God's reality through Him. This episode promises to offer not just a scriptural reflection but a transformative journey into the heart of what it means to recognize Jesus as the revelation of God, and how that recognition calls us to a life anchored in divine truth.

As we unpack the themes of Christ the King, we'll confront the tension between choosing comfort and aligning with the truth Jesus embodies. This isn't just a retelling of an ancient exchange; it's an invitation to become citizens of a kingdom where truth reigns in love. Reflect with me on how this narrative speaks to our daily lives, encouraging us to be truth-tellers in a world often swayed by the allure of lies. Through prayer and thoughtful reflection, we'll not only explore Jesus' mission but find the courage to embrace it ourselves. Let us seek the strength to listen to His voice and live out the reality of His kingdom.

  • When Foundations Shake: Facing Uncertainty with Faith
    Nov 15 2024

Can our cherished institutions and long-held securities truly stand the test of time, or are we merely clinging to illusions of stability? Join me, Chuck Warnock, as we explore the moments when the unthinkable becomes reality, and how such upheavals can transform our understanding of security and faith. Reflecting on the 2008 collapse of Lehman Brothers, we draw parallels to a powerful passage from Mark's Gospel, where Jesus foretells the destruction of the temple, reminding us that even grand structures are transient. Through these narratives, we are encouraged to question where we place our ultimate trust and to confront the seductive allure of false prophets that emerge during times of crisis.

As we navigate life's uncertainties, we find solace in Jesus' message of hope and renewal. Let's contemplate experiences where the seemingly unshakeable facets of our lives—be it relationships, careers, or institutions—begin to crumble, and discover how faith can guide us through despair. Embracing God's transformative power, we explore how new life emerges from turmoil and affirm a belief in new beginnings rising from endings. Together, we share a prayer for strength and offer a daily reflection guide for those seeking deeper spiritual insight during challenging times, encouraging listeners to see crises as opportunities for renewal and hope.

  • One More Step Toward Love - Mark 12:28-34
    Nov 3 2024

    Scripture: Mark 12:28-34
Theme: Looking back on our journey through Mark's Gospel this year, we've seen the scope of Jesus' ministry as he taught his disciples and the crowds, healed the sick, fed the hungry and announced the kingdom of God. As his popularity increased and his message seemed to take hold, Jesus faced increasing opposition from Jerusalem's religious leaders. Even in the last week of his life, these religious authorities would conspire to silence the Nazarene.

However, in this passage we encounter a different scene. We see a moment, not of angry argument, but of genuine connection between Jesus and a sincere teacher of the law. Their exchange reminds us that when we seek the truth, our search leads us to the One who is the Truth.
