Meurtrie d'avoir été abandonnée par James, l'amour de sa vie, Agatha Raisin s'en remet aux présages d'une diseuse de bonne aventure : elle trouvera l'amour, le vrai, dans le Norfolk. Qu'à cela ne tienne, Agatha quitte Carsely et s'installe dans un charmant cottage de Fryfam où elle attend le prince charmant en écrivant son premier roman policier : "Panique au manoir". Un titre prédestiné car, après une série d'étranges phénomènes, le châtelain du village est assassiné et les soupçons se portent tout naturellement sur Agatha, dont le conte de fées vire au cauchemar.

Traumatisée après qu'une coiffeuse rancunière l'a shampouinée à la crème dépilatoire, Agatha Raisin se réfugie incognito dans un hôtel de la côte en attendant que sa chevelure repousse. N'ayant plus rien à perdre, elle consulte également une sorcière réputée pour ses talents. Miracle, la magie opère, mais pour peu de temps, car la sorcière est retrouvée assassinée... Agatha renoue aussitôt avec ses réflexes de détective, aidée par l'inspecteur Jimmy Jessop, ensorcelé par ses charmes. À moins que ce ne soient les effets du philtre d'amour qu'Agatha a acheté à la pauvre sorcière ?

The most hated man in the most dour town in Scotland is sleeping with the fishes, or - more accurately - has been dumped into a tank filled with crustaceans. All that remains of the murdered victim are his bones. But once the lobsters have been shipped off to Britain’s best restaurants, the whole affair quickly lands on the plate of Constable Hamish Macbeth. Exiled to the dreary outpost of Cnothan, Macbeth sorely misses his beloved Lochdubh, but before he can head back home he has to contend with a detective chief inspector who wants the murder hushed up.

Even though Agatha Raisin loathes Christmas panto, her friend Mrs Bloxby, the vicar's wife, has persuaded her to support the local am dram society in their festive offering. Stifling a yawn at the production of Babes in the Wood, Agatha watches the baker playing an ogre strut and threaten on stage until a trapdoor opens... followed by a scream and silence! Surely this wasn't the way the scene was rehearsed? When it turns out the local baker had been murdered most horribly, Agatha puts her team of detectives on the case.

The local society could only speculate how a pair of turtledoves would cope as the guests of the scandalous Lady Dacey. Surely she would attempt to corrupt them - an act that both Pamela Perryworth and Honoraria Goodham would see as welcome entertainment in their rigid, joyless lives. Though Mrs Perryworth is married - most unhappily - and the young Honoraria has a cloying tendency to read too much Scripture, the purity and loveliness of both ladies nonetheless inflames the senses of two notorious lords.

PC Hamish Macbeth can't help but admire the resourcefulness of the Highlanders during the recession - in tough times they have to lure tourists to their sleepy towns and the quaint village of Braikie has come up with a novel solution. Felicity Baronsheath, their first assignment, turns out to be more of a challenge than they could have ever imagined. Not only is Felicity indifferent to the idea of marriage, she is also a spoilt brat!

Le nouveau voisin d'Agatha Raisin, Paul Chatterton, propose à Agatha Raisin d'enquêter sur la maison dite hantée de Madame Witherspoon, une vieille dame détestée de tous. Il se passe des choses inquiétantes dans cette maison et quand la vieille femme meurt dans d'étranges circonstances, Agatha met un point d'honneur à trouver le meurtrier.

The poor relations banded together some time ago to run The Poor Relation Hotel in the hope their embarrassed relatives would buy them out, but as the hotel prospered, so they began to enjoy the fruit of their labour. But once again they need money to go on and so poor, faded Miss Tonks is dispatched to her rich sister to steal something valuable from her in order to keep the hotel on its feet.

A therapist had moved into Carsely and Agatha Raisin hates her. Not only was this therapist, Jill Davent, romancing Agatha's ex-husband, but she had dug up details of Agatha's slum background. Added to that, Jill was counselling a woman called Gwen Simple and Agatha firmly believed Gwen to have assisted her son in some grisly murders, although has no proof. As the friendship between James and Jill grows stronger, the more Agatha does to try to find out all she can about her. When Jill is found strangled to death in her office two days' later, Agatha finds herself under suspicion.

Sergeant Hamish Macbeth is alarmed to receive a report from a woman in the small village of Cronish in the Scottish Highlands. She has been brutally attacked and the criminal is on the loose. When Jane Wetherby offers PC Hamish Macbeth a holiday at her 'Happy Wanderer' health farm on the isle of Eileencraig, he is more than happy to accept. Incomer Gloria French is at first welcomed in the Cotswold village of Piddlebury. She seems like a do-gooder par excellence, raising funds for the church and caring for the elderly. But she has a bad habit of borrowing things and not giving them back, so when she is discovered dead, poisoned by a bottle of elderberry wine, folk in the village don't mourn her passing too intently. Parish councillor Jerry Tarrant hires Agatha Raisin to track down the murderer. But the village is creepy and secretive and the residents don't seem to want Agatha to find who the murderer is.
