Spike Milligan: Inside Out sees Milligan admirer Michael Palin and Spike’s daughter, Jane, chat through some of Spike’s many audio recordings.

At the National Council of Churches, Robert Spike had organized American churches to support the passage of both the Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act, to march in Selma, and to organize in Mississippi. An important White leader in the Black civil rights struggle, he helped the LBJ White House pass legislation and write crucial civil rights speeches. In the midst of what he described as "the dirtiest fight of my life" while struggling to save a federal Mississippi education program, he was viciously murdered in Columbus, Ohio.

Here are all six episodes from this one-off 1987 radio comedy series, written by John Antrobus and starring Spike Milligan, Chris Langham, John Antrobus, and a jazz quartet. Spike Jones and his City Slickers enjoyed perhaps their finest hour in March 1948, when they performed in Washington, DC at the request of President Harry Truman. They do a slam-bang up job on “I’m Just Wild About Harry” on the opening show in this volume, in anticipation of their visit. Getting The Spike Jones Show on the air took a lot of advance planning from week to week, with schedule and location dictated by the band’s lucrative road show and its cross-country tours of one-night stands.

The best comedy-novelty band of all time was at its peak when The Spike Jones Show (officially The Spotlight Revue, better known as The Coke Show) debuted on CBS, Friday, October 3, 1947. The show premiered in San Francisco where Spike and his City Slickers’ wacky Musical Depreciation Revue was holding forth at the Curran Theatre. The guest list here includes musical humorist Victor Borge (savaging “Clair de Lune” on the premiere), Tex Williams (doing his signature “Smoke Smoke Smoke”), Mel Torme and Frankie Laine.

Arrth, a Bigfoot tween, has lived a sheltered life until he runs into a skin-faced human. When the ugly monster tries to shoot an innocent rabbit, Arrth must act. His brave deed backfires. Somehow the skin-faced thief has stolen part of Bigfoot Valley's cloaking shield and now the Bigfoot clan is in danger of discovery. Or worse, total destruction. It's clear that Arrth is the only one who can save the clan. He will have to track down the thief and retrieve the missing device. To do this, he must leave the safety of Bigfoot Valley in the desperate hope of saving his kind.
