When scientist Victor Frankenstein forms a creature from the body parts of corpses, thus shattering the perceived limits of scientific understanding, the consequences are devastating. Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley (1797-1851) will forever be known as the author of one of the all-time great Gothic novels, Frankenstein; or The Modern Prometheus (1818). In 1824, she published her essay "On Ghosts", which offers a personal glimpse into her own opinions and experiences. This edition includes a new preface with historical context and an excerpt from M.G. Lewis' 1796 work The Monk: A Romance that Shelley references in "On Ghosts".

First published in the English literary anthology annual The Keepsake in 1833 by Mary Shelly, master of Gothic fiction, The Invisible Girl is a story about the turbulence of secret love. Like much of her work, Shelly blends the dark and the supernatural with elements of romance and intimacy and unravels this story within a story with aplomb, and the setting of rural Wales in the early 19th century lends to the foreboding and bittersweet tone of the tale.

The ship becomes trapped in ice, and, one day, the crew sees a dog sled in the distance, on which there is the figure of a giant man. Hours later, the crew finds a frozen and emaciated man, Victor Frankenstein, in desperate need of sustenance.

Narrating from her deathbed, Mathilda, a young woman barely in her twenties, writes her story as a way of explaining her actions to her friend, Woodville. Her narration follows her lonely upbringing and climaxes at a point when her unnamed father confesses his incestuous love for her. Mathilda has also been seen as an example of redefining female Gothic narratives which includes the first person female narrator having more control over the story than was common at the time.

Horrifié par l'aspect hideux de l'être auquel il a donné la vie, Frankenstein abandonne son "monstre". Mais ce dernier, doué d'intelligence, se venge par la suite d'avoir été rejeté par son créateur et persécuté par la société.

Originally published as part of a contest between Mary Shelley, her husband Percy Bysshe Shelley, and Lord Byron, Frankenstein has since captured countless imaginations. When Dr. Victor Frankenstein learns the secret of imparting life to inanimate matter, he is eager to test his theories. The bones he collects to construct his human subject become a gruesome, frightening creature, endowed with supernatural size and strength. Lonely and miserable, the created comes to hate his creator. When the monster murders Frankenstein’s brother and his bride, the doctor embarks on a heated pursuit, only to put his own life in grave danger.

Max is nervous. He has to go to the dentist to get two teeth pulled. His friend Zoe tells him about the great prizes you can get at the dentist. Max has to figure out a way to be brave and get his prizes so he doesn't disappoint Zoe.

Victor Frankenstein, un jeune étudiant brillant, crée de toutes pièces un être à l'apparence humaine. Bien vite, il regrette son geste. En effet, la créature prend l'apparence d'un monstre sanguinaire qui ne pense qu'à semer la mort et le malheur sur son passage et qui persécute son créateur. Au travers de l'histoire de Victor Frankenstein et de son monstre, Mary W. Shelley nous pose la question de l'origine de la cruauté humaine. Le monstre de Frankenstein est rejeté par tous. Il aimerait avoir des relations avec les humains mais ceux-ci le fuient. Il devient alors violent et s'en prend aux personnes qu'il rencontre.

The story concerns a scientist, Victor Frankenstein, who conducts a great experiment to see if he can create a living being from the body parts of corpses. Only whe the experiment is successful does he begin to think of the ethics and consequences of what he has done. The creature he created becomes embittered when he finds that no one will love him becuase of his appearance.

"The Mortal Immortal" (1833), a short story by Mary Shelley, relates the life of Winzy, a man who gains eternal life after taking a mysterious drink. At first elated, Winzy likes immortality less and less as time passes and his loved ones grow old and die. Winzy starts considering himself a pariah among people because they die, while he cannot. He even envies the mortality of others but at the same time dreads death more and more, due to having witnessed the deaths of so many, including that of his beloved wife, Bertha.

When a young man squanders his inheritance and scornfully refuses the help of a family friend, he descends into miserable fury. At his lowest point, upon a jagged beach overlooking a sea suddenly violent with storm, he encounters a twisted deity that offers him wealth and revenge...for an unconscionable price.

It tells the story of a young woman whose mother died in her childbirth - just as Shelly's own mother died after hers - and whose relationship with her bereaved father becomes sexually charged as he conflates her with his lost wife, while she becomes involved with a handsome poet.

Written by 18-year-old Mary Shelley, the novel follows scientist Victor Frankenstein as he recounts his story to Captain Walton, who found a gravely ill Victor adrift at sea. Victor tells of his creation of a being so horrible that he abandoned the Creature, much to his own shame. Not to be forgotten, the Creature's quest for revenge and understanding from its master leaves a trail of devastation in its wake.
