About this listen

Legal Immigrant is Alan Cumming's collection of musings on his experiences as a US citizen, growing older, and what it feels like to be an immigrant in today's America, featuring songs and stories that are as eclectic and idiosyncratic as Alan himself. The audio, recorded live at the Minetta Lane Theatre, is a smorgasbord of genres, styles, and tales. A Beautiful Bright Light in the Gray

Thank you so much for this! I love Alan Cumming so much! I have loved him since High Life and much more after seeing him in Cabaret. That has only grown with each performance. Having this performance to listen to as many times as I want is such a blessing! His rich voice and witty sense of humor really brightened my cold and blustery gray days in Portland! As a mixed race human from Hawaii, a place with a culture created from the amazing mix of Native and immigrant people, I absolutely love and recommend this! I only wish I could give it more stars! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

Lots of Music in this

I didn’t quite know what to expect with this, but I am glad I gave it a chance. I didn’t know anything about Alan Cumming so I was actually afraid he was going to rant about being a “good guy immigrant”, (legal, white, financially secure), in opposition to “bad guy immigrants” (not legal, not white, poor). Nothing could be further from where he was actually going with this. It is a celebration of diversity and the human family.

Funny and thought provoking

I love spending the evening with this evening of song, laughter and stories. I enjoyed the after interviews to tie up the meaning of the title and theme of the event.

Engaging, truth telling artistry.

Absolutely adored it! immigration & our perception of it needs to change. the more people talk and know each other's stories, the sooner we can move past inaccurate and obscenely disgraceful stereotypes. the sun has to come out tomorrow.... tomorrow

Another Classic Alan Cumming's Piece

I should preface with the fact that I adore Alan Cummings and will read/listen to anything of his. His voice and gift for storytelling are delightful. He can bring both humor and depth to any topic he is invested in. He isn't afraid to speak his truth.

Excellent listen, made me want to be there

I stumbled on this one without knowing Mr. Cumming’s background, or being a particular fan of musicals. From the anecdotes woven between songs within songs, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this. Seeing Mr. Cumming IRL is now on my wish list.
