About this listen

In his newest collection of essays, David Sedaris lifts the corner of ordinary life, revealing the absurdity teeming below its surface. His world is alive with obscure desires and hidden motives, a world where forgiveness is automatic and an argument can be the highest form of love. Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim is another unforgettable collection from one of the wittiest and most original writers at work today.©2004 David Sedaris (P)2004 Time Warner AudioBooks Entertainment & Celebrities

Critic reviews

  • Audie Award Winner, Humor, 2004

"Sedaris' material (Naked, Me Talk Pretty One Day) is never funnier than when he's reading it himself." (AudioFile)
"David Sedaris Live at Carnegie Hall is a rollicking comedic masterpiece....This recording will deservedly take its rightful place among the best comedy albums of our time." (AudiobooksTODAY.com)
"As uproarious as Sedaris is on the page, he's even funnier reading his wickedly jaundiced reflections. With brilliant deadpan timing, Sedaris is a charm." (Publishers Weekly)

Some priceless gems

I'm one of those who really enjoys Sedaris' reading. His inflections, his emphases and stressors, as he reads adds a whole new interpretation to his words as apposed to having them read on your own. He can be harsh, often, but the beauty is there too, and we forgive him, because his self-deprecation helps silently redeem himself. Not every story is awesome... And I have no doubt he himself knows this. But everyone has the potential to be hilariously charming and sometimes painstakingly heart rending.

Hilariously morbid.

This was a new kind of comedy for me, yet it seemed strangly familiar to real life.

Brilliant writing

I just love David Sedaris. Lovely collection of stories. Well worth the listen if you don't mind his very unique voice.

Touching, if not always funny

This is classic David Sedaris. While there were only a couple of stories that did have me laughing out loud, those were the ones he does live with an audience, all of the stories told are touching, authentic, quirky, and at least put-a-smile-on-your-face amusing. While I can't quite rave about this audio book I certainly enjoyed it and would recommend it.

Outrageously funny.

Would you consider the audio edition of Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim to be better than the print version?

Yes, I do. David Sedaris' reading of an already great book furthers into the upper echelon of humor. His sardonic wit transfers very well in audio form; his inflections and comedic timing are spot on.
