unexpected ending!

started this story and couldn't wait to finish it. I thought I had the killer figured out, but it ended up being a surprise. Lynette Eason as usual dazzles.

True Believer

What most captured my heart was her Reference to depending on God, Bible references, and thhat dependency on God is the only true way to eternal happiness. I have listened to almost ALL of her series and I have not been disappointed with any of them.

Didn’t want it to end.

I couldn’t put this one down. It holds you from beginning to end. And you hate to see it end.

Entertaining Christian mystery with twists

This is an entertaining Christian mystery with lots of twists to it and with a romance that has a happy ending. It's a bit slow moving in places with a lot going on. But it's an entertaining book with the Christian message sprinkled in. The performance is very good.

Sweet story

This is one story in which I could not figure out the villain until the end, and fortunately, the mystery parts of the plot were sufficiently interesting to keep my attention until the end. The story is typically melodramatic as per the genre, but the relationships between the characters and emotional struggles they faced were more true to life, especially for the male protagonist.

Within the exciting plot twists and unraveling mysteries, the whole series deals with hurt and forgiveness culminating in this book which makes an unwillingness to forgive front and center as a major character flaw which the male protagonist must overcome before moving on with his life. There aren’t a huge amount of therapy sessions in the book, but the story deals honestly with how an unforgiving spirit poisons his ability to have healthy relationships even with people he currently had no grudge against.

Eason does not excuse evil in the book; she recognizes it while still not permitting it to ruin the characters’ future by destroying the characters’ inner peace. I like the way Eason works this out as characters grow throughout the story. It was nice to hear a different kind of emotional problem rather than the typical “fear of revealing secrets” or false “guilt” over something the characters could not control. The willingness to admit our mistakes, to make changes, and to extend forgiveness towards others when they make mistakes is necessary for every meaningful relationship we have. Eason nails this, making the story and characters more believable than most.

The book was a satisfying ending to the series. My only problem with the series and this book is that the plot always has the same action elements. Dudes on protection detail are typically useless, get shot, get foiled, find out problems by accident not efficiency, etc. The female protagonist goes off on her own with the killer to an unknown place because the team is too slow to realize who is the villain really is, etc. It gets old, but there were not so many problems in this story to make me dislike it. Likable characters always make the story worthwhile.
