Publisher's summary

From New York Times best-selling author Stephanie Tyler, writing as S. E. Jakes....

Soldier of fortune Prophet Drews always worked alone - until Tom Boudreaux became his partner. But when Tom walked away three months ago, ostensibly to keep Prophet safe, Prophet learned the true meaning of being alone. Everyone knows that Prophet, a Navy SEAL turned CIA spook turned mercenary, can look after himself. Which means he must've driven his lover away. Even with half a world between them, Prophet can't get the man out of his head. Maybe that's why he's in New Orleans in the middle of a hurricane, protecting Tom's aunt.

But the only looter around is Tom, bursting back into Prophet's life. It turns out that Prophet's been stuck in Tom's head - and heart - too. Their explosive reunion gets even hotter when Tom is arrested for murder. As they fight to clear his name, they delve deep into his past, finding enemies among everyone they meet. Staying alive in such a dangerous world is hard enough, but they soon discover that fighting to stay together is the most difficult thing they've ever done.

Action packed series!!

Any additional comments?

The chemistry between Tom and Prophet is crazy!!!! I WANT MORE! Tom shared his past in this book so hopefully in the next it will be Prophets turn. Prophet portrays such a bad ass and he is but part of him is so sweet and caring I can't get enough. I hope they get their hea.

4.5 stars- Fantastic end to the second book

I'm continuing with my catch up of the Hell and High Water series. The second book in the series, Long Time Gone was a mixed bag for me . I thought the start of the book drug a little, especially with Prophet and Tom being distanced from one another. One of my favorite aspects about series including established couples is seeing/feeling the connection right from the start. The separation of the main characters made that impossible at the beginning of Long Time Gone. However, once the events surrounding the hurricane caused the pace to pick up and brought Tom and Prophet back together, I was quickly pulled back in and really enjoyed the story. The banter between Tom and Prophet, and even secondary characters, was more entertaining in the second book as well. As the relationship between the men solidified, I couldn't help but fall harder for this couple and series, and the end left me excited to jump right into the third book.

As with the first, I both listened and read Long Time Gone, but I really enjoy the narrator for the series and found myself listening more than reading as the plot intensified. That said, the Hell and High Water universe is one that whether you listen or read, the series is bound to draw you in.

So good

What did you love best about Long Time Gone?

This entire series is amazing, but I did love Prophet's interactions with Tom's aunt and the emails Tom wrote to Prophet.

What about Adam North’s performance did you like?

Adam North did an amazing job with this entire series. I can't wait to listen to more books narrated by him. Tom's Cajun accent and Prophet's voice were a nice pairing.

Alphas & Action

If you could sum up Long Time Gone in three words, what would they be?

action, sexy, alpha

Who was your favorite character and why?

ugg too hard

Have you listened to any of Adam North’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, I think he does a great job with all that I've heard.

If you could take any character from Long Time Gone out to dinner, who would it be and why?

I think I would be too intimidated for a dinner date

Any additional comments?

I love books like this, alpha males and all this excitement. I madly crazy over two cops or agents or military men getting hot and heavy. I don't know if that's an actual trope or genre or category, but it's my favorite whatever that is. The men are so intelligent, strong and capable, and there's so much sexual tension. Their bodies are government weapons, and it's a toss up as to who's the biggest bad[..]. An average person like me could never handle it. They have to crash into someone as formidable as each other to make them consider love. Also I'm really into action books. This has murder, kidnapping, coverups and more

And the greatness continues!

This is book 2 – we left Tommy and Prophet with Tommy choosing another partner in order to keep Prophet safe. Proph goes off the grid doing odd jobs for a number of months until he gets some emails from Tommy about a hurricane coming to his aunt’s house.

Proph goes to New Orleans to help Tommy’s aunt survive the storm only to find Tommy has come there too. They fall back into their relationship hotter than ever and make up.

While there Tommy gets arrested for a murder he didn’t commit and it’s up to Prophet to get him out of jail.

Meanwhile things are still going on in the John/Sadiq front and that mystery moves forward. But now Tommy knows more about Prophet’s past and his eye problems.

They agree to be a team, even though both are worried about the other’s safety.

**

The chemistry in this is OFF THE CHARTS – I agree with a reviewer who notes that some of what these guys do may not be physically possible – but it sure as heck is hot!

I am really enjoying this as an audiobook – the narrator totally works for me – and I highly recommend the series and the audiobook. (I also LOVE these covers – so hot!)
