About this listen

From the marvelous author of Heartstopper comes an exceptional YA novel about discovering that it's okay if you don't have sexual or romantic feelings for anyone...since there are plenty of other ways to find love and connection.

This is the funny, honest, messy, completely relatable story of Georgia, who doesn't understand why she can't crush and kiss and make out like her friends do. She's surrounded by the narrative that dating plus sex equals love. It's not until she gets to college that she discovers the A range of the LGBTQIA+ spectrum - coming to understand herself as asexual/aromantic. Disrupting the narrative that she's been told since birth isn't easy - there are many mistakes along the way to inviting people into a newly found articulation of an always - known part of your identity. But Georgia's determined to get her life right, with the help of (and despite the major drama of) her friends.

Featured Article: Audible Essentials—The Top 100 LGBTQIA+ Listens of All Time

While LGBTQIA+ creators have been around for millennia, it’s only recently that we’ve been hearing more diverse, more queer-authored, and more queer-performed stories about the entire spectrum of LGBTQIA+ experiences and identities. This list—just like the community it represents—is meant to be fluid. But most importantly, it’s meant to celebrate and reflect on the issues faced by LGBTQIA+ people everywhere.

Dear Listener,

What do I hope listeners will get out of the audio experience of Loveless?
"My journey to writing Loveless began with the desire to write a story about platonic love in the same way writers often write about romantic love—like something magical, timeless, and world-changing. We live in a world where romance itself is romanticized. Everyone is expected to find their perfect person, fall in love, get married, and grow old together, and if you stray from that path, you've failed at life...right? What happens when that path is impossible for you? That is the question that Loveless's protagonist, 18-year-old Georgia, faces upon the discovery that she is most likely asexual and aromantic, meaning she does not experience attraction to any gender. But what she and Loveless's main characters learn is that despite all the love stories, the love songs, the expectations of their parents and society, and their own visions of their future, they can find love and joy elsewhere. I hope that Loveless will help readers to see that too—that you don't have to fall in love to find your happily ever after." – Alice Oseman, writer of Loveless

This book is a home run

Not only is this book a home run, but Billie Fulford-Brown's narration is real, grounded, an absolute sensation of a performance. One of my favorite audiobooks this year.

This is my favorite book

I was so excited for this book to get the US publication. It’s so nice to finally have representation. It’s such a fun story and extremely related as a person on the asexual spectrum. This is something I want to share with everyone.

The performances was great and fun. Never taking me out of the moment.

Alice Oseman is ALWAYS a win

Alice Oseman is always a win.
I read this during my Alice Osemathon I was doing and while it was long and kinda predictable cause of the title I still thorough enjoyed it.
10/10 would read (or listen i guess) again.

just so important for people who are aroace

as someone who is aromantic asexual, i cannot describe just how important this book was for me. i swear i cried so much because of this book (in a good way). i have been looking for so long for books or really any form of media that have an asexual main character and you know its not common. because of the rarity of an asexual main character, this book just meant the absolute world to me and i will be re-listening many times :)

Exactly what I needed

This is is exactly what I needed, honestly made me cry for so many reasons, happy and sad tears. There is so little Ace representation in media and this really does it well. I really love the important friesndhips in place of romance because I have always felt like friends are more important. It was a little tricky to get into in the first part because the main character is just so down on herself but once it picks up it picks up and it's great.

Was pretty good but everything by Alice oseman

Didn’t like how she constantly complained but overall it was a super good book. I was a big fan of heartstopper and hoping this would be equally as good. It was good just not as good as heartstopper.

LOVED IT!!!

I absolutely loved the book and especially the narration. It brought the story to life. It really gave me a wonderful insight on sexuality in all its forms.

Everything about it was amazing.

Alice has a certain, magical way of writing not only stories, but also characters. I always find myself getting attached to them and feeling like I know them and they know me. This book in particular has given me a new perspective on so many things. I would 1000% recommend.

Couldn't put it down!

I loved this book! This was my first time reading/listening to an Alice Oseman book, and now I want to go read everything she's written. There was never a dull moment, and I loved getting to know these characters. The narrator was also great and acted out all the parts really well, I also enjoyed the short bonus story at the end (the reason there are three narrators listed--two of them read the bonus story). Also... this book made me realize I'm asexual. Despite being 42 and married for 20 years to someone who's also asexual (though she just realized it a few years ago), I still didn't realize until I read this book and was like OMG, this is me! I related SO MUCH to Georgia! So, thank you to the author for writing this and being so candid with Georgia's thoughts and feelings. Knowing doesn't change anything about my life, but it does make a lot of pieces suddenly fall into place.
