Relatable and helpful!

My dad always said “First figure out your goal, then work backwards.” I think this is one of the core messages of Deb’s book that resonated with me and is unique and under-shared in the self-help communities.

I really enjoyed this audiobook. Deb’s story is so relatable and her reading is so engaging and well-paced.

The steps she lays out here are extremely easy to follow with great examples offered along the way. While I’ve never been through a divorce, I’ve faced other adversity and found that the wiser on shared here easily applied to me too. Thank you, Deb, for helping others find a brighter path forward!

Speaks to the most important issues

It was truly helpful and engaging. The narrator was paced just right! And the content better than I thought when I first decided to get the book. It speaks to matters that are really important and it goes through the process Ins and outs. What I liked the most is the suggestions and guidance or plans of actions for not getting stuck in a situation or different scenarios that come up usually in the divorce sphere - it give you ideas and you can start planning instead of making sudden choices that can be regretting.

Handling the pain

I really enjoyed this outline and plan on how to handle a divorce not only for yourself but for your children. It honestly healed a piece of me and allowed me to see forgiveness as an option.

Thoughtful and very helpful!

Deb Purdy writes in the very concise and kind way. She shares her personal experiences and her clients’ experiences. I particularly appreciated the parts about parenting and helping our children adjust to divorce.

I loved this book and I’m not even divorced.

I am a life coach and I chose this book build some tools for helping my clients cope with divorce. There several wisdom bombs and practical exercises that I’ve been able to use in my work and also in my life. I loved easy accessible tone of this book. It’s well written and intelligent but not lofty or condescending. I have recommended it to many clients.

Psychology 101

This was basic and unimpressive. I knew I had to return this by the end of chapter two. The author offers surface level suggestions like: make a playlist to feel good; focus on your breathing; don't talk negatively in front of the children; reframe your negative thoughts; look for options after increasing your awareness; don't let others change your mood; stop watching the news; do chores/distract yourself.

No these aren't bad things, of course not. However, if you've read any books on these topics then you have all of her strategies. Moreover, the metaphysical type degree encourages her to peddle the flaw parts of her book. Not all marriages are meant to last, don't feel shame or blame yourself because it happened, you can live a better life... I wish I was pulling this out of the air, but I'm not. She blind sided her husband and while pursuing her degree decided to use these ideas to make co-parenting possible. This is not why the relationship opened up, it's because most people don't want long drawn out legal cases... Perhaps I'm wrong though and her situation was different. Perhaps this can help you along your journey. She did confirm an echo I got from another author that if you don't like or resonate with a book stop reading it. This is a definite return. I hope you heal and get the answers/result your seeking. YMMV
