Publisher's summary

She didn’t want to fall for him. She had no choice.

When magic dwindled from the world, the four kingdoms formed the Society of Crows, skilled wizards and sorcerers bound by the gods to uphold the balance. But as time passed, they became corrupted, demanding that magical humans marry only for procreation, for the preservation of magic.

Nava Forrest stumbled upon her soulmate when she was young. A brief meeting with a hooded stranger forever bound her to a man she wanted nothing to do with. Her parents were also soulmates marrying despite her father not being a magic-wielder, their forbidden love forcing their family into hiding.

Now that they are gone, her life raising her younger brother and selling potions to wary townsfolk has been quiet...and magic-free. When the Society of Crows finds Nava, intent on enslaving her, it forces her to flee to the forest, searching for the one person she was told can protect her.

Arkimedes is certainly not what she expected, and her attraction to him is new and unnerving. As the chemistry between them grows, so does her power. With the Society closing in, it forces the two to create unexpected alliances, and work in their disagreements. One rejecting magic and the other a powerful, enigmatic fae, who has secrets of his own and is determined to change her mind. Nava must decide if she is to follow her destiny, listen to her heart...or maybe they are the same.

The Curse of the Crow is an enthralling full-length fantasy romance, that will transport you to a new world where fairies and sorcerers exist, and soulmates find each other against all odds. Adventure packed, featuring a deliciously angsty romance, steamy, and filled with desire.

If you love stories with fae, sorcerers, strong female MC that has a bubbly personality, that hides deeper insecurities, and a brooding male hero that complements her. This is a store for you!

Great story! Meh narrator :/

This was a really intriguing story. Our MC is hidden away on a small island and in a town with no magic. She comes from a family of magic users and her mother moved her and her brother there to hide them from the Crows which is a corrupt organization that hunts down magic users to "preserve balance." Our MC also has a rare gift from the gods in the form of three intertwined circles called the soulmate bond. Having a soul mate is a rare thing in this world and if you are away from your soulmate or kept apart you slowly go mad. Her soulmate bond was activated when she was 15 and triggered by a Crow this prompting her mother to relocate the family. After the Crows find her almost a decade later in her non-magically town, our heroine is forced to leave everything and everyone she loves behind to find a cursed man her deceased mother said would protect her. Thus she embarks on a magical journey out of the town she's called home and into a world of magic. She stumbles upon creatures both friendly and not, all while discovering the magic that has been inside her suppressed for her whole life. Destiny calls and she is swept up into an unforgiving world with new rules and an irresistible attraction to a cursed man who has his own agenda.

This book has a lot of potential and I can see future books in this series having a ton of raw material to expand upon that is briefly mentioned in this book. The writer has moments where some plot points could have been expanded upon or done slightly better but it was a very enjoyable read and I'm excited to see where the writer takes this story!

The romance is a slow burn ❤️‍🔥, reluctant allies to lovers and there's even a reverse "who did this to you" which I loved. Obviously, morally gray with tons of tension.

My only issue was mainly on the audio part. The voice actor is pretty bad/mediocre in some parts. I'd even go as far as robotic... Plus some of the voices are just plain weird. Like the brother ...

Good story, bad narration

The story-line is decent enough. An interesting fated mates tale with a magical sidekick. The narration is robotic. over-annunciated and halting speech was very distracting from the story even on increased speed. Unfortunately the story was not interesting enough for me to continue the series especially considering I will try to avoid this narrator in the future.

✨ Fated Mates
✨ Slow Burn
✨ ACTION

Abbey Fox portrays a world of intense magic and even more interesting creatures. The Curse of the Crow was a phenomenal read, once I started this audiobook I couldn’t stop! The action accompanied with the slow burn & spice made this a extremely well written book. Each characters personality quite literally jumped off the page, giving you the opportunity to fully immerse yourself into the world of the Wicked Kingdom. That being said I am fully looking forward to her upcoming release of “The Curse of a Kingdom” coming March 22nd.

Finished in one day

I loved it! A perfect mixture of action, humor, fantasy, magic and slow building romance. Couldn't stop listening. And the love scenes were super hot without being overbearing. I'm glad I found this one. The only bad thing is having to wait for the 2nd book!

It was just…. okay

I had to really push through 22 chapters before the story really picked up, and even then things were not explained in detail as I would have liked- the world they live in or the magic; nor did I find attachments to the hero’s.

Overall this book was a stepping stone for the larger story to take place that I can assume would be in the Second book to come. However it left me disinterested because of how this story dragged out. The only positive part of listening to this book was the narrator.

Fun and sweet

This book was super fun to listen to- it hit all the right notes, has some refreshing and interesting plot twists and a slow burn romance that had some nice steam.

The narration was prettyy good, the story a little predictable but was still fully immersive and interesting. If you’re looking for something light and magical that has all your favorite tropes, this is a great choice!

I’ll definitely keep listening to the series when the next one comes out.

Terrible Narrator

Her voice sounded too young and didn’t fit the book. She also was robotic. Returning this one. The story has promise but I cannot listen to another book with this narrator.
