Publisher's summary

In the annals of piracy, few figures are as enigmatic and controversial as Captain William Kidd. His journey from a reputable seaman to one of the most infamous pirates encapsulates the blurred lines and moral ambiguities of 17th-century piracy and privateering. But he also lived through seismic times in the history of England, Scotland, the Caribbean and of the Americas, especially New York. It's an incredible journey, scuppered by those in high places with wealth and power that all began with maritime tradition dating before Julius Caesar.

But, in 1696, it's Kidd's maritime career that takes a decisive turn. He was entrusted with the command of the Adventure Galley. His task was to hunt down pirates and French vessels in the Indian Ocean, a region notorious for piracy. This mission, sponsored by some of the most powerful men in England, and New York, seemed to be a golden opportunity but it all goes horribly wrong.

Captain Kidd's legacy, a mixture of vilification and romanticisation, also begs the question, was his execution legal and was he innocent of the crimes as charged. Is the treasure still out there?

In this book, we cover each of the charges, and show that Captain Kidd was not a pirate, nor a murderer but a man who tried his best to serve his King and country only to be punished by the very same men who professed to support him.

Entertaining & Educational

I didn't really know who Captain Kidd was but I love learning about history and this book was so fun to listen to. The narrator makes you feel that you are right there inside the story. I listened to this while I worked and found it a great story to listen to in the background. Being that I have no information about Captain Kidd, I was not expecting to learn that he was working on behalf of the English govt to protect the American and English routes. I found the stories left me to feel conflicted on whether he was more of a pirate or just caught up in the politics in which he was hired. Now at least I learned who he was and what he did and again the book was very entertaining and educational.

This book tells the story of Captain William Kidd, exploring his change from a respected sailor to a famous pirate. It looks at the 17th century, where the lines between piracy and privateering were unclear. The book questions if Kidd's punishment was fair and if he was guilty. 30% more Skullduggery than leading titles

Noel and Nicola Young have created an awesome work of art here that entertains and simultaneously educates the listener on the life, adventures, and struggles of the legendary Captain Kidd. It becomes clear that he would have done anything he could for his King and was not actually the perpetrator of much of the crimes he was thought of acting out. And this makes sense when you realize there is only one word involved: POLITICS! All in all, a nail-biting, educational, and exciting audio title that is sure to boost the imaginations and historical knowledge of any listener.
