Publisher's summary

Given the opportunity, would you assume someone else's identity and leave your old life behind?

A serendipitous crossing of paths between Lisa Barnes, a down-on-her-luck job seeker, and Julie Forman, a personal trainer to an Olympic hopeful, forever changes the course of both women's lives.

One winds up dead, and the other finds herself a fugitive, hiding behind lies as a cold-blooded killer methodically hunts her. Desperately trying to stay alive, the terrified woman enlists the help of Forensic Instincts, a rogue investigative team that clandestinely operates in the gray area between legal and illegal. Safeguarding their client's deception, Forensic Instincts digs into dangerous territory as they try to find out who's after their client and why. Meanwhile, bodies are piling up in Chicago, New Jersey, and Vermont as a megalomaniacal genius will stop at nothing to eradicate anyone who threatens the success of his medical breakthrough.

With an unhinged client and a monstrous criminal enterprise as its adversary, Forensic Instincts is forced into uncharted territory to protect their client and save one of their own from becoming the next corpse.

Great suspense and good mix of romance

Liked the mystery and the intermingling of couples from prior books. Especially good suspense for ending. As always this narrator is simply outstanding!

Good series

I have enjoyed all of the books in this series and have become fond of all of the characters in the stories. Unusual story lines and enjoyable solutions. Violent at times, and interesting technological inventions to help solve these cases.

Best yet

This book flushes out more fully the character and personalities of the FI team. The plot of the grown up foster kids holds your heart strings and the plot and consequences for the young hopeful athletes being manipulated and used keeps you focused.

Rather mediocre series

An Audible plus book for me. Characters are a bit stereotypical. The computer nerds, the psychic, the tough guy, the teenager, the strong female. Most have perfect love lives in and out of bed. No real attempt to create a worthwhile villain, at least for this one.

Good for in the background listening. Narrator is too pleasant for me but not grating. Have read two now. Can’t recommend.

Could have been great

Would you try another book from Andrea Kane and/or Hillary Huber?

Andrea Kane yes but sadly no to Hillary Huber. All the characters sounded the same and it made me wish I had not listened as an audio book. Nice voice but ruined the story for me.

Would you be willing to try another book from Andrea Kane? Why or why not?

Yes. I have read several of her books that are not the forensic series and they were great. The interaction with the forensic team was sappy and Ryan sounded like a teenager. An example the scene between Claire and Ryan made Ryan sound like a teenager. Andrea Kane is generally a good mystery writer.

Would you be willing to try another one of Hillary Huber’s performances?

No

Was The Murder That Never Was worth the listening time?

I liked the story line but found too much time wasted on the perfect relationships of all the characters. I loved the Dark Room by Andrea Kane. The love relationships in this book were not developed in Andrea Kane's usual way .

Any additional comments?

The reader does have a lovely voice but all her females are hard to distinguish and Hutch was the only guy who seemed not a teenager. Sorry. I am presently looking for an Andrea Kane that is not a part of this series..

Enjoyed it

It’s not technically a thriller but it is a bit suspenseful. It’s nice though to read about people helping one another with no sinister agenda (now I didn’t say everyone in the book) lol. A good free audio book. I love this narrator.
