About this listen

INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

From the editor in chief of Variety and author of the New York Times bestseller Ladies Who Punch, the never-fully-told, behind-the-scenes story of Donald Trump and The Apprentice, the long-running reality series that catapulted him to the White House.

Here for the first time is the definitive untold story of Donald Trump’s years as a reality TV star. Trump himself admits he might not have been president without The Apprentice. Now, just as he uncovered the chaos inside the daytime favorite The View in his bestselling Ladies Who Punch, Ramin Setoodeh chronicles Trump’s dramatic tenure as New York’s ultimate boss in the boardroom, a mirage created by Survivor producer Mark Burnett and NBC boss Jeff Zucker. With unprecedented access, including hours of interviews with Trump, his boardroom advisers George Ross and Carolyn Kepcher, Eric Trump, and some of the most memorable contestants, and writing with flair and authority, Setoodeh shares all the untold tales from this legendary show that has left its mark on popular culture, shaped the legend of its star, and ultimately changed American history.

Okay story, terrible voice actor

A good, albeit very biased, look at President Trump reminiscing about the making of “The Apprentice.” It didn’t have the same energy as the author’s prior book, “Ladies who Punch,” in my opinion. The narrator was awful though; he sounded like an SNL skit mocking Trump. The story was interesting enough that I didn’t turn it off on account of the narrator, but I disliked his voice; even when he wasn’t mocking Trump, his voiced dripped with shade and condescension.

The real story on Trump, why he is the way he is and can’t change

This is a book you can’t put down! I like the way it was written

Excellent Storytelling

Relating/interweaving interviews as story rather than bland facts. I don’t want to kibitz for anyone. Enjoy!

Apprentice in Wonderland

Very informative about Trump’s beginnings with the Apprentice and how it catapults him to the presidency.

Disturbing evidence of former US president's dangerous psychological profile

Every US citizen would benefit from author Ramin Setoodeh's new information and his insights into the former president's inability to detach himself from his role on the failed, scripted "Apprentice" TV series. This profile reveals the subject's utter lack of character & ethics, his extraordinary self-obsession, his cruelty, and his absolute disdain for law & order, facts, reality. How ironic.

Tired of trump

Part way through I realized how extremely tired I am of hearing about trump. Why can’t he just go away and get out of our faces?! I almost didn’t finish it, but thought perhaps the ending would feel like some semblance of satisfaction. Wrong! The nightmare continues. But, good writing on a terribly tragic subject.

Scary reality

This is a unique presentation of a reality star who people, some people, actually believe is a good guy. I found it terrifying AND probably true. I wish I was wrong...

Something for everyone

The reader is great, especially when doing Trump's voice in the author's retelling of conversations. Getting behind the scenes looks at The Apprentice is interesting and funny. As I expected, the author is anti-Trump-the-politician but without setting any political context or discussing any policies. He repeats the "Trump is a racist" charge with stories that demonstrate exactly the opposite. He laments what !Trump! as President has done to the country. TDS much? Yes, but it comes across as hopelessly blind and laughable. If you hate Trump you'll love this book. If you understand Trump's historic role as the USA's best hope today and the way he drives his opponents crazy, you'll love it.
