interesting

Not sure if I like the main character or not he is a good mix of smart and cunning, but it's hard to get behind someone how is so self interested. I did finish the book so the story kept me in.

I might be biased

I personally hate conartists and it made the story difficult to listen to. On the other hand things going wrong for him were very enjoyable.

that said I tried to review it without my personal feelings. The story is well written but slow.

I can't think of any complaints I had with the narrator so he gets full marks.

If you don't mind a scummy mc (he doesn't actually do anything scummy at least) and are ok with a slow base building story I do recommend this.

City building with a unique MC

This isn’t your standard MC and it may take a bit to get used to but the overall story is well written with a unique premise. The MC is an antihero who builds out his followers and builds out his fledgling city. The story itself is well written with a well planned out world to explore.

This series is awesome

This series is right what I needed, usually I like the warriors fighting in stuff and the bloodshed. But this shows the person who climbs up to the top without fighting and only cunning. It also had alot.of realism. The system is different In a kinda bad way.. good series overall.

The world building is good. Characters are likable... the fighting is the only part I didn't like.

Overly Rated

Not sure why this book was so highly rated. It was very slow, the story dull. The author seemed overly excited about the ConMan archetype, constantly referring to it over and over. The protagonist main power never really manifested in a significant way to the story. Overall, a very disappointing story not sure why it was rated as high as it was.

The narrator had a lot of pauses throughout. He would speak at a normal rate of speed during the sentence, and then between sentences an overly long amount of time before starting the next. I normally listen to my books at 1.3 X. This book I listen to at 1.9 x, and didn’t notice the speed being fast. I normally don’t buy books that are less than 10 hours in duration. Seems like the narrator may have conspired with the author to make the book seem longer than it really was by putting the pauses between sentences.
