When Peter Pan flies through the Darling Children's nursery window one night, he is nearly captured and makes a hasty escape, leaving behind his shadow. Returning with the fairy Tinker Bell to reclaim it, he wakes up Wendy, John and Michael and whisks them away to the magical shores of Neverland. There they meet the Lost Boys, befriend Tiger Lily and her Braves, swim with the mermaids in the lagoon and have a host of wonderful adventures. The story of Peter Pan is all that you imagine it will be - and so much more. While narrating this delightful audiobook, I was struck by both how similar it is to the beloved stage musical (I've always wanted to play Peter, and this was my chance! - well, without the flying) and also by how much deeper the narrative goes - if you wish it to. It made me think about the joys and losses of growing up, the darker side of children ("gay and innocent and heartless"), the power and depth of parental love, and the secret kisses we all keep inside that only someone special can unlock.

The story follows Peter's relationship with Wendy, where he eventually persuades her to join him in the fairy tale world of Neverland to be a mother to him and his friends, The Lost Boys. But not all is safe in Neverland, as the Peter's evil adversary Captain Hook tries to thwart Peter and his friends' fun on multiple occasions. Ending in the climatic final duel between Peter and Captain Hook, this story is filled with action, adventure, family bonds, and an infamous ticking crocodile.

The wispy Peter Pan and Tinkerbell fly into the lives of Wendy Darling and her two brothers, telling them about their home, Neverland - a faraway land filled with magic and wonder. He leads the three Darling children over the rooftops of London and away to Neverland. Magic and mischief is in the air but if villainous Captain Hook has his way, before long someone will be swimming with the crocodiles...
