William Wymark Jacobs (1863 - 1943) was an English author of short stories and novels. Most of his works were either humorous tales or horror stories. Many of his popular tales are written in the cockney vernacular and are based either on the docks at Wapping, or in the bar of the infamous tavern The Cauliflower. 'A Tiger's Skin' is a tale narrated by the oldest regular at The Cauliflower. It is the story of the Claybury tiger... a beast which had apparently escaped from a travelling circus....

"The Monkey's Paw" is a supernatural short story by author W. W. Jacobs first published in England in 1902. Three wishes are granted to the owner of the monkey's paw, but the wishes come with an enormous price for interfering with fate.

W. W. Jacobs (1863-1941) is well known for humorous stories and for the most grisly of horror stories. His Brother's Keeper belongs firmly in the latter category. It tells the story of a man whose murdered enemy lies secretly buried at the bottom of the garden. It is the perfect crime. Nobody need ever know who has murdered him and where he lies. Nobody need ever have known....

W. W. Jacobs was best known for his humorous tales of sailors, often related by his most popular and enduring character: The night-watchman on the wharf in Wapping, recounting the preposterous adventures of his acquaintances Ginger Dick, Sam Small, and Peter Russet. These three characters, pockets full after a long voyage, would take lodgings together determined to enjoy a long spell ashore; but the crafty inhabitants of dockland London would soon relieve them of their funds, assisted by the sailors' own fecklessness and credulity.

When Ralph, the new cabin boy joins the schooner ship Susan-Jane, which is carrying a cargo of gunpowder, he finds to his surprise that he has not signed up for a life as a swashbuckling pirate. Instead of romance and adventure, he finds himself having to scrub decks and wash dishes. Worse still, any subordinance is punished harshly by the crew and the skipper. Ralph decides to take his revenge on the Skipper and his crew, and devises an ingenious plan...

When a mutinous spirit breaks out among the crew of the schooner, the Captain and Mate cannot comprehend the cause. As the sailors one by one refuse to eat the rotting food the Skipper has supplied, he decides to make an example of the cabin boy. The crew come up with an ingenious plan to change the Skipper's mind and release the stocks of fresh meat and butter. They decide to fake the death by suicide of the cabin boy... but things do not turn out quite as they had hoped.

When the skipper of HMS Foam agrees to vacate his stateroom when his Mate's wife wants to take a short vacation onboard for a 10-day voyage, he has no idea that his own wife is also planning a surprise holiday on the ship. When the two women arrive, there is an immediate misunderstanding as to the arrangements... and the situation goes from bad to worse as the voyage progresses.
