About this listen

"An outstanding debut - ingenious, fast-paced and unpredictable." (Harlan Coben)

"Geneva is one of the best thrillers I've ever read. And I've read quite a few." (A J Finn)

How far would you go for someone you love?

Nobel Prize-winning scientist Sarah Collier has taken a step back from work to spend more time with her family. Movie nights with her husband Daniel and their daughter Maddie are a welcome respite from the scrutiny of the world’s press. As much as it hurts, it’s good to be able to see her father more too. He’s suffering from Alzheimer’s and needs special care.

Sarah has started to show tell-tale signs of the disease too. She’s been experiencing blackouts and memory loss. It’s early days but she must face the possibility that she won’t be there to see her daughter grow up. Daniel, a neuroscientist himself, is doing his best to be supportive but she already knows that she will have to be the strong one. For all of them.

So when Sarah is invited to be the guest of honour at a prestigious biotech conference in Geneva she declines, wanting to stay out of the public eye – that is until Daniel shows her the kind of work that the enigmatic Mauritz Schiller has been developing.

Flown first class to the spectacular alpine city and housed in a luxury hotel, Sarah and Daniel are thrust back into the spotlight. As they try to shut out the noise of the public media storm, in private Sarah is struggling with her escalating symptoms. And the true extent of what Schiller has achieved is a revelation. This is technology that could change medicine forever. More than that, it could save Sarah’s life.

But technology so valuable attracts all kinds of interest. Wealthy investors are circling, controversial blogger Terri Landau is all over the story, and someone close to Schiller seems bent on taking advantage of the situation for themselves. Sarah feels threatened and does not know who to trust – including herself. Far from being her lifeline Schiller's technology may be her undoing.

As events spiral out of control Sarah and Daniel are faced with the ultimate question: how far would you go for someone you love?

An unmissable debut thriller written and narrated by Richard Armitage, co-narrated by Nicola Walker and Jane Perry.

This book contains scenes pertaining to dementia that some listeners may find distressing.

Featured Article: Best of the Year—The 15 Best Mysteries and Thrillers of 2022

This year was an amazingly fruitful one for mysteries and thrillers. As we tried to narrow this list down, a popular refrain among editors was: "Don’t forget this, don’t forget that, and what about this?" Some of us liked when the twists and turns began within the first few minutes, while others were happy to go on the rocky, thrilling rides the genre provides with a little guessing along the way. But we’re sure about one thing—this list is simply the best.

Congratulations!

I make a point of participating in this new and wonderful journey of Richard Armitage participou and I have not regretted it, as the narrations bring us a fantastic and engaging story. Congratulations Audible, Richard Armitage e Nicola Walker. Bel Mendes, Porto Alegre/Brazil. 10/20/2022 (And look, I don't understand English very well, but I have an English friend -Philip de Lacy White - who helps me understand the text completely. Suggestion: could have a written text resource with translation in some languages that would be read along with the audio (must include Portuguese of course!). Marking the narrated passages in the text (song app type when playing the songs chosen by the listener, but also with the option of choosing the language to be translated). If I'm already in love with the book and need help to listen, imagine putting together audio in English and reading in my mother tongue!!!)

Instantly pulls one in and fast paced👍

I looked forward to listening to Armitage’s first book. I definitely wasn’t disappointed. He touched on so many things regarding ethics, personality, technology, and social media. However, he also addresses the big issue…one really never knows what people are truly thinking and that words cheap.

With all the twists and turns it made me focus on every word and replay various scenes.

The narration by Armitage and Walker made the characters and twists come to life.

I definitely hope Mr. Armitage continues to write and provides us enthralling thrillers.
👍 as well as narrate them.

I always wonder how authors are inspired to develop characters and storylines then create…what a gift.

Oh, and I hope he continues to find time to act as well.

The Talented Mr. Armitage does not disappoint

I've had a crush on Richard Armitage since I first saw him play Lucas North in the series Spooks, which aired on PBS but retitled MI5 in the US. Mr Armitage is more than a pretty face, he's is a gifted actor and a very talented author. Geneva is a roller coaster ride of a psychological thriller in the Hitchcockian vein -- think Dial M for Murder, Vetrigo and George Cukor's Gaslight. The performances by Nicola Walker (also one of my favorites), Richard Armitage and Jane Perry are superb. The actor's "readings" are cinematic, in the sense that they are so good that when you close your eyes and listen you can see the action play out as a movie in your head. I hope to see Geneva on the screen as a TV series and can't I wait to read more from the talented Mr Armitage.

Must read

Found Nicola Walker through her film work and later Richard Armitage as a narrator on Audible. Together they create a dynamic duo in a compelling delivery of Mr. Armitage’s written words. A nod to new-to-me Jane Perry as well. What a fantastic story!

Lots of twists!

I really enjoyed this novel and the narration by two of my favorite actors was wonderful. There were lots of twists to the story that I didn’t see coming.

Wonderful debut overall!

An intriguing storyline which kept me glued, well written characterizations and visceral descriptions of everything were some of the things that stood out for me in Richard’s debut novel. Ultimately for any novel what resonates are the human connections -how deeply one is able to capture human foibles and frailties and the interpersonal relationships and the writer seems to particularly excel in that area.
Can’t wait to see what’s next from Richard the author, and also looking forward to seeing a film/ web series version of this book as well sometime soon.

Creative plot.

The voice actors were captivating for me. Having a main character with Alzheimers disease was emotionally engaging, but not too much so. The plot gained momentum from beginning to end. I found myself listening for longer periods of time in the second half as the story became increasingly gripping!

Outstanding debut!

Now that is how you kick off a thriller! The opening of this book literally had me holding my breath in anticipation of what was to come next...and the rest of the book did not disappoint. This book plays out amazingly on Audible with a great cast of narrators that bring these complex characters and thrilling plot vividly to life. A fantastic debut that has more twists and turns than a black ski run. Unforgettable! Loved every minute!
