A powerful 17-minute audiobook

A powerful 17-minute audiobook that packs a lot of emotion into a short time. The story revolves around a family dealing with loss and the tensions that can arise from unspoken grief. The narrator, Mandy Grant-Grierson, delivers a solid performance, but her voice can feel a bit flat at times, which might take away from some of the emotional highs. Even though it's brief, the story manages to be moving and reflective. It’s perfect if you're looking for a quick, emotional listen, though I do wish it was a little longer to explore the characters more deeply.

It took me on an emotional rollercoaster

"Laid to Rest" is short but so impactful! In just 17 minutes, it took me on an emotional rollercoaster. The story dives into generational grief and the quiet struggles that can tear families apart. It’s beautifully written, and the narration by Mandy Grant-Grierson adds so much depth to the emotions. If you’re looking for a quick, heartfelt listen that stays with you, this is it.

A quick but emotional story

This is a short story about three generations of women reuniting, with feelings of grief and distant connection captured in a single photo. It almost comes off as poetic to me, in a good way. You'll end the audiobook in a reflective state and its good if you're looking for something short but impactful. The only thing is the narrator is a bit monotone throughout, but I did enjoy the story!

Quick but Powerful Listen

For a 16-minute audiobook, this packs quite an emotional punch. B.B. James manages to tell a complete family story through the clever device of a single photograph, making every minute count.
The three generations of women feel surprisingly well-developed given the short runtime. Their shared grief and struggle to reconnect felt genuine rather than rushed. I especially appreciated how the author showed each character's perspective without getting bogged down in unnecessary details.
The narration keeps the pace moving while still giving weight to the emotional moments. It's perfect for a short commute or workout, but still leaves you thinking about the characters afterward.
While it's not breaking new ground in family drama, it's a solid story that does what it sets out to do. If you're looking for a quick listen that still delivers on emotional impact, this is worth your time.
A good reminder that sometimes the shortest stories can still pack a meaningful punch.

Short and sweet

The thing I like most about this book is its length. It’s a fun and quick read so it’s doesn’t take long to jump right into the action. And it’s not as if the action is boring either as it deals with family drama which is always interesting!
