About this listen

A breathtakingly candid memoir by Joanna "JoJo" Levesque, the chart-topping, multi-platinum recording artist behind hits like “Leave (Get Out),” “Too Little, Too Late”, and the Grammy Award-winning "Say So"

Signed to a major recording deal at just 12 years old, JoJo catapulted to the top of the pop-and-R&B-infused charts in the mid 2000's. The relatability of her youth and the appeal of her cool-girl mystique earned her millions of fans around the world. JoJo was an undeniable superstar and pop culture fixture, spanning roles in major studio films, omnipresence on Top 40 radio, frequenting magazine covers, and appearing on national TV. Then, out of the blue, everything came to a halt and JoJo seemingly stepped out of the spotlight, leaving many fans to wonder: What happened to JoJo?

In OVER THE INFLUENCE, JoJo holds nothing back as she brings her against-the-odds story of adversity and triumph to center stage. From being raised by parents who were both battling addiction and depression, to emerging victorious in a never-ending lawsuit with her record label, to putting the fragmented pieces of herself together after a maddening period of rebellion and self-betrayal, she takes the listener through the turbulent years that led her to where she is now: releasing new music under her own imprint, performing in shows and festivals around the world, headlining a Broadway show, and beyond. In this raw, behind-the-scenes look at her life, both personal and professional, JoJo’s unflinching vulnerability allows listeners to connect with her on a whole new level through stories of success, heartbreak, redemption, and resilience.

More than a victory lap from an artist with over two decades in an ever-changing entertainment industry, OVER THE INFLUENCE is an unapologetic rallying cry to anyone who’s ever been terrified to fail and still said, “Count me in.

Deeply Moving and Relatable in Ways You Might Not Expect

Joanna Levesque’s Over The Influence is nothing short of remarkable. From start to finish, her story resonated deeply with me—not just because of the details of her personal journey, but because of the universal nature of the experiences she shares. Whether it’s seeking external validation, battling addictive habits, or navigating the path to redemption, her raw honesty and vulnerability create a powerful connection with anyone who’s faced their own challenges. Listening to her tell her own story adds another layer of impact. Joanna’s voice is so pleasant to listen to, and the way she reads her book makes the emotions palpable. You can feel her strength, her pain, and ultimately her pride in her own redemption. It’s as though she’s having a conversation with you, inviting you to witness her truth while encouraging you to embrace your own. Her perseverance shines through every chapter, and the freedom she’s found is truly inspiring. I finished the book feeling more encouraged to live my truth and follow my own light. This memoir is a testament to how powerful it is to own your story, no matter how messy or imperfect it may seem. I highly recommend it to anyone who’s ready for a heartfelt, real, and inspiring journey.

Her honesty!

This book was perfection! The rawness in Joanna’s word felt like I was reading an entry in her diary that I shouldn’t have been reading! It was a breath of fresh air to have someone be so raw about her upbringing and the struggles she face. Beautiful! I can’t wait to read it again!

Very Raw and Inspirational

She is so down to earth and tells you all about it in this memoir of her life story and her challenges from the beginning up until where she is now. The Good the bad all of it knee deep into the raw thoughts/emotion/obstacles on her journey. Mad respect for her; give it a read 💕

Emotional and honest

This book was very insightful for fans of JoJo. Her speaking about public moments and me being able to say “oh wow! I remember that” or “I saw that post/pic” was eye opening. It shows that we don’t really know what someone is going through even when they’re right in our face. I loved hearing her take accountability for her actions or lack of action. Understanding her history with her parents and addiction also helps to understand JoJo a bit more. She has a very calm and soothing speaking voice so it was an easy listen. Very well written

Blown Away!

Over the Influence by Jojo (Joanna Levesque) is a stunning exploration of resilience, self-empowerment, and transformation. Jojo’s voice, always soulful and dynamic, carries raw emotion in every track, making it a deeply personal journey for the listener. The album’s themes of breaking free from toxic patterns, reclaiming one’s identity, and embracing inner strength are universal yet intensely intimate, resonating with anyone who has faced struggles and come out stronger.

Sonically, Over the Influence blends R&B with pop sensibilities, creating an atmosphere that is both moody and uplifting. Jojo’s vocals are at their most captivating—rich, controlled, and deeply expressive, each note imbued with the power of experience and survival. From anthemic tracks that celebrate liberation to softer, more introspective moments, the album balances vulnerability with triumph.

Overall, Over the Influence is not just a testament to Jojo’s artistry, but a beautiful ode to self-rediscovery and the strength that comes from taking control of your own narrative. This album is not just heard—it’s felt.

I needed this

Absolutely amazing. I’ve been a fan since JoJo came onto the scene. It’s so refreshing to know that others out there suffer from anxiety too. Her book was real, funny, and inspiring.
