• EP 191: Ditch the 'New Year, New Body' BS ~ How To Protect Your Recovery & Set Healthy Goals in Diet Culture Season🎆
    Jan 7 2025

    Happy January sister friend!

So the boys and I rang in the new year in a new place this year.

Hopefully you've had a great start to your new year!

We surely had an awesome experience. We took the boys tubing at a ski resort in the Blue Ridge mountains, and it was fantabulous. Yes, I'm still a beach girl. And yes, I dread being cold, but between the fireplace and the glorious snow, it was beautiful.

The mountains were breathtaking and it was just what my soul desperately needed...but back to reality and the podcast with you. And I am so happy to be back here recording a new show today!

I can't wait for you to tune in to Episode 191 :)

As we made memories over the break, I got to thinking about 2025 and goals and just how much influence culture has on our personal goals and expectations.

Not that that's a bad thing, but just hear me out here. So yes, January is the start of a new year, but society makes us feel disorganized, society makes us feel lazy and unproductive if we don't set massive, crazy, audacious goals as soon as the clock strikes midnight. And I just got to thinking, I'm not. Not this year!

And I'm not suggesting not to have goals for this year. I'm not saying that I don't have personal goals and I don't have business goals. But for me, the way I want to view my 2025 journey is going to be different. Instead of aiming at these massive goals, I plan on aiming at the goals that God places on my heart.

But with INTENTION and less pressure of my timeline. I want to stop looking around and comparing myself to what everyone else is doing or what everyone else is thinking. And so I wanted to share today's episode to help you grant yourself the same grace and permission, because maybe like me, you don't have it all together either and maybe you haven't decided to read 20 books in 2025.

And maybe you don't even know what a resolution could be for you.

So here is what I want you to think about. Instead of trying on another resolution that may or may not last until February, I want you to think about how you want to do this year differently and how you want to show up with grace and permission as you lean into the best version of yourself.

Tune in to this one friend! Let's ring in the new year strong!

    xo,

    lindsey

  • EP 190: Did You Know 92% of Eating Disorder Thoughts Are Hidden Emotions? Here Is the Scientific Truth Behind ‘Feeling Fat’ + 2 Tools to Help You Silence the Voice
    Jan 3 2025

I hope you are starting the New Year off right sis! And my wish for you is that you invest in yourself and your recovery in 2025.

But just in case you are doubting the new year already, I wanted to give you some TRUTH BOMBS and 2 tools that you can use when you catch yourself "feeling fat" as the world around you continues to push the billion dollar diet culture fads this January.

    ~

Did you know that 92 percent of the time when you're feeling fat, you're actually experiencing a completely different emotion? In Episode 190 of the podcast we're diving into the science behind this powerful truth + I can't wait to share some eye opening statistics with you because research is so clear in this area.

Research shows 95 percent of women engage in what we call "fat talk".

    That's right.

Almost every single woman spends nearly 50 minutes every single day feeling fat. That is almost an hour of every day lost to these thoughts. Now you mix in an eating disorder and years of unhealthy behaviors and bam....most of the day spent with that battle in your mind...

But here's the game changing truth. 80 percent of these moments have absolutely nothing to do with your body. Nothing.

I want you to let that sink in for a minute.

I remember in my own journey, there were so many days when I would wake up just feeling fat, like my body physically felt bigger, but the reality was that nothing had changed in my body overnight. Something had triggered that feeling of fatness. Maybe it was an upcoming work event for me, or when I look back in my journal, it was tension with my mom or a friend or just plain overwhelm of feeling out of control in various different areas of my life because I was struggling with this control and the grip of it in the eating disorder.

But I didn't have the tools at that point to really understand what was going on inside of me. And the truth is that when I began to accept that in order to be my most authentic, my most healthiest best self, I would need to accept my body changing and for me, that meant weight restoring. It was as if the fat feelings came in like a flood overnight... but nothing had changed except my brain knew that my goal was no longer to lose weight because that wasn't going to lead me anywhere good.

Research from the International Journal of Eating Disorders shows that body dissatisfaction significantly increases during times of emotional distress.

Listen in to the show today, where I breakdown what's actually happening when you're having those feeling fat moments. Because 92 percent of the time, that's nine out of 10 times when you're feeling that fat feeling, you're actually experiencing something completely different.

I can't wait to share this one with you girl!

  • EP 188.5: Why Recovery Setbacks Don't Define Your Journey + How to Handle Slip-Ups Without Losing Hope
    Dec 27 2024

It's that time of the week girl!

I'm jumping in to your inbox today to check-in on you my sweet friend.

    How was your holiday?

    How are you?

Okay, I'll ask it again...how are you really?!

    ~

It's okay if you answered not so great. I promise not to judge! When you struggle with disordered eating, slip-ups & set-backs happen....well as sucky as they are (making you want to throw in the towel), it's time to start expecting them. Prepare for the slip-ups! Especially during overwhelming times like the holidays.

    ~

Here is a golden nugget for you today girl...

Change is hard. Growth is hard. Slip-ups & set-backs are just proof you are doing hard things. NOT proof that you are failing at the things.

In my recovery journey I wanted so badly to DO recovery "right". On days where I fell back to old patterns & behaviors, I felt like it was just "too hard". I felt like I was just never going to get to freedom. I had moments of feeling that recovery just wasn't in the cards for me.

Reality is....THAT way of thinking is a LIE. A false narrative. STOP believing it!

That lie is a trap your mind wants you to believe to keep you chained to the disorder.

    Discouragement + Doubt = Quitting

    You aren't a quitter! You aren't a giver-upper either!

So when slip-ups & set-backs come your way....use them as a SET-UP as you step into the BEST version of yourself.

    You totes got this!

    & I got you sister.

    hugs,

    lindsey

  • EP 188: The Present is Your Present ~ Finding Magic in Recovery this Holiday Season | ED🎄Recovery Guide
    Dec 24 2024

    Ekkk Happy Christmas Eve!!!

I hope your week is starting off great as we all patiently wait for the big guy to come down the chimney! I wanted to drop a brand new pod episode into your inbox for you to listen to while you finish your gift wrapping and last minute "to-do's".

In Episode 188, I share THE BEST gift you can give yourself and others this Christmas and how you can find magic in recovery this holiday.

    ~

So yesterday I was at Santa with my boys and it hit me. While everyone around us was rushing, stressed about perfect pictures and checking their phones, my kids were just Present.

It was like time stood still to them. They were living in the pure magic of the moment as they waited in line to see Santa. And it got me thinking about how often we miss these precious moments. My kids are 6 and 10 and I look at it as a very pivotal year because I am hanging on to my 10 year old with the expectation that he's always going to want to stand in that line.

And the reality sis, is I know that we're on the last leg of moments like that one. How about your reality? Well when you're struggling with an eating disorder, it literally sucks all the good moments from your life. So many moments are missed because you are caught up in those eating disorder thoughts.

So many moments I missed. And so I wanted to bring you this episode today not to be a negative Scrooge. But actually quite the opposite.

It's time to take a stand against spending ONE more Christmas at war with your body! No more giving your best gift away for a false sense of control. And that gift, friend? TIME.

    ~

The boys and I went to a family gathering last night after Santa, one that in past years would have sent me into a tailspin. I mean, yes, it was the kind with all the festive dishes, a charcuterie board, espresso martinis, all the tasty festive treats, enter the cookies, the brownies, the shortbread...there was banana pudding. It was amazing!

And while my recovered-self enjoyed every bite of nourishment. I couldn't help but realize just how fast time flies. I questioned myself, "do I live here in all the right now moments? Or am I living back there and how it used to be or fast forward to what hasn't even arrived yet?"

I don't know about you, but I want to remember all these moments that I have left, all of them.

It's so important to really get real and present with ourselves. And that's what I wanted to do was to question your current state. If you are feeling drained, overwhelmed, and maybe the holidays are just not your thing because of past traumas, or because of the eating disorder or because of lost loved ones. I totally get that, but there is still something so magical about this time of year.

Here's the thing. The magic of recovery, just like the magic of Christmas, it happens in the NOW. It happens in the present. And it happens when we choose to be here, even when it's super, super uncomfortable.

So my hope for your this holiday is that you LIVE in the PRESENT and make a commitment to your future self to get the help and support you need to combat your eating disorder.

With so much love and recovery hugs,

    lindsey

  • EP 187.5: Do You REALLY Want to Recover from Your Eating Disorder? | The Pain of Recovery vs. The Pain of Staying Sick⚖️
    Dec 20 2024

    Hey there girl!

Can you believe we are falalalala-ing all the way into a brand new year in a matter of weeks?

I always find myself at the end of a year thinking about the things that I clung to, & the not so good things that clung to me. & I wonder how I can make the next one even better.

Sadly, I used to wonder how I was going to exercise away Christmas food choices, avoid weight gain & get back to a rigid routine as soon as the clock struck midnight. So much so, that I became completely chained to my eating disorder.

    ~

If your lifestyle requires you to track, monitor & count every food morsel, carb, calorie, or pound on the scale.....then ask yourself -> are you really living?

I know one thing is for sure...freedom from disordered eating is REAL, because I myself have escaped her chains. I myself broke the patterns of unhealthy diets, restrictions & behaviors that year after year kept me trapped in my own mind & body.

    And, YOU can too!

In Episode 187.5, I share all about ambivalence in recovery & I talk about the path of pain.

Tune in to the show today sis! It's a goodie!

Plus, I'd be honored if you shared this one with someone you love that may struggle with disordered eating & could use a positive dose of inspo leading up to the holiday.
