My introduction to Somatic Therapy

Although I was enjoying learning about this new concept, Somatic Therapy, I really sat up and listened to the chapter on slowing down - I realize I don’t really have to go faster and accomplish more, but I can actually slow down and appreciate the feelings and the smells and enjoy the strengthening and stability it brings. A sort of stop and listen to your body. Great introduction to this concept and lifestyle.

Somatic Therapy helped me!

I really enjoyed Nicole Reap’s Somatic Therapy For Beginners: Simple Exercises to Master the Mind-Body Connection, Relieve Stress and Anxiety, and Alleviate Chronic Pain and Trauma. This is a practical resource for people like me who really knew nothing about economic therapy. I found there were things I could begin immediately to bring help to my life. I also liked the way she included expert input and things to do to change up your processes to keep you interested and motivated. This is a super helpful book!

A lovely intro to Somatic Therapy

I’m relatively new to the term somatic therapy, so I was curious about the topic. I have to say I really enjoyed the book overall. The therapy is simple, not overly complex, and backed by basic science.

My only reservation was Chapter 5 when it started getting a little too spiritual and “woo woo”. I prefer to keep New Age and Hinduism out of my life, but other than that, it was a decent book with very nice practical steps for relaxing in the midst of anxious times.
